The files look correct from what I peeked at inside the extracted zip.

Awesome, thank you for the assist!

Gave it a whirl with a current WIP car last night and Holy Cow it actually works! I encountered just a couple hoops involved to make it work with mods other than the original cup cars that came with the game - but the effect is absolutely visible in replay mode.

Now that I have an idea of how it behaves in-game - I can start to tweak the paint scheme to react a little more like how I want it to.

Really, only the first two or three (closest) layers of the stack are in play for most viewing angles it seems - or maybe it's my graphics setting for the game (didn't think to look at those last night). And this effect is definitely most noticeable the greater the difference in color between the layers and the greater the surface area of the car the base color covers. I think my final product will include a hybrid of the initial route I was going to create the effect and this method.

Oh - you know this opens up a whole sh-load of Jeff Gordon paint schemes! If you need help getting it to work with cup98, let me know. It's a weird workaround - but you can make it work.
Yea essentially it would work for the 98, and 99 all star cars he had. Ill get it working and start playing with it this afternoon!

I'm thinking of trying this out with cup2000 next and doing his silver Daytona car. That one had a slight silver to blue shift.

This effect could most likely be leveraged to create a really cool version of Jeff Burton's Exide Taurus with the holo-foil stripe as well.

Jeff's Loony Toons '01? was Chromalusion too?

OMG YES!

Back in the day many cars where done at NNR, mostly Sr to Jr schemes (3 to 8) that looked like crap. But the fictional M&M's cars looked awesome with the changing candies.

I put together a car last night on MENCS19. It looks really cool. I will have to play with the color layers a bit more to generate the look I really want. Currently it shifts from red, to pink, to purple and blue light blue then green. and back. I'll likely drop the pink, light blue and green. I want more of the red fading to purple and blue. But this is really fun. Took me a bit to figure out that you ignore the fact that is only reads the default cup folder. I haven't tried switching physics yet. Might attempt to run a truck through it.

I was just dropping the files I wanted to convert INTO the original cup folder - regardless of what mod they were - to use them. Then moving the completed chrome.cup.car back into its appropriate mod folder. Was that what you were doing? Or is there another way?
