Slightly longer cut of the video I posted earlier. When the camera shifts to the next position - you can see a clipping issue on the roof of the Pontiac. Thoughts? Like I said, I hardly ever race in game so I don't know if this is common or a graphics issue or a glitch. But I don't think it's related to the illusion layers as I went and checked a few other Pontiacs from the cup98 set and they seem to have the issue as well.

Apologies for filming my laptop screen with my phone camera, lol. But you can get an idea of my initial tests with the effect here in the opponent manager. You need to watch the spoiler and or leading edge of the nose as they rotate away from you.

This is F***ING AWESOME! Now we can make chrome cars and chameleon paints that actually somewhat "reflect" similar to reality.

I recalled hearing it only works for OG Cup, but since we can use it for ANY mod, it opens up a whole new world of possibilities

Attempt #2. Here's the transition point as seen frame by frame on track. Did I go TOO light? I have some screenshots of this car from the Daytona night race and it looks straight up teal from some angles. I also blew up the metallic flake layer on the template by 200% to make the speckles actually visible in-game.

I was just dropping the files I wanted to convert INTO the original cup folder - regardless of what mod they were - to use them. Then moving the completed chrome.cup.car back into its appropriate mod folder. Was that what you were doing? Or is there another way?
Yeah pretty much what I was doing. then moving to the Cup19 folder and renaming the car file. I did find I had to delete the Chrome.Car file completely out of the CUP/Cars folder before the software would compile a new version. If there was an existing file it would crash the software. That might have just been an issue with my prehistoric system though.
I would love to know how it all actually works behind the scenes. I would like to see it improved so that the changes reflected more crosswise across the nose and hood even when using the front camera view.

I think my ONLY issue is that the effect is reliant on "distance from camera" rather than "angle/ direction of camera".

If someone could reverse engineer and figure that out it would be EPIC

I'm thinking of trying this out with cup2000 next and doing his silver Daytona car. That one had a slight silver to blue shift.

This effect could most likely be leveraged to create a really cool version of Jeff Burton's Exide Taurus with the holo-foil stripe as well.
I painted JG 2000 D500 car a few months ago did a standard metallic illusion

That is actually the best shot of the car just sitting that I've seen yet! Thanks for that! I knew it ran at Dega the week before Datyona, yes. Have any more spiffy images of this car by any chance? Google images is useless for real life shots of this one.
Great work and it's looking awesome. Probably know already but that scheme was used at Talladega as well without the firefighter decals.

That is a rare car and you won't find many pictures. I don't have a lot of pictures of that car and some of these you probably already have. A few are small as well. I might have some more but would have to look. The only other difference between the two the talladega car the design wasn't on the spoiler. Let me know if need any kind of help with the Petty stuff because I am happy to help. I've been wanting to paint all these but just haven't got the time right now so happy to see others do them.

Computer generated cars in a nearly 20 year old game...... and David Green back there is looking like I cropped him straight out of a real race photo. Can you tell I had fun doing the grill layouts on the Suzuka cars? I don't think any car in this set actually uses the grill straight off the SNG templates..... I created my own to match as closely as possible to what ran in the race.

You got the chrome illusion effect absolutely perfect and that is hands down the best version of that car anyone could ever do!!!! The only little nitpick I see is the camera roof pod should be white on both car's. For some odd reason Petty in the late 90's to early 2000's usually left it white and never bothered to paint it. Sorry I just now noticed that but either way amazing job!!!!

Thanks, Bud - I appreciate your help in finding those extra photos of the real cars. They were super useful in getting the look right! I'll wait and see if anyone else has any comments or suggestions on anything that might need to be tweaked. I'll have the white roof cams on v2.0 of this download when one comes.
