@Slipster17 What did the Gaylord's think about this (Scott or Donna) car/sim/project etc?
Never actually spoke with Scott. I got in touch with Tripp (his son) initially and he mentioned his father having a bunch of old photo boxes in the attic. He put me in touch with Donna (his mother) and after showing her what I had and what I needed it took about a week for her to go through their stuff and get back to the me with the photos I posted yesterday.

I did not have a single negative reaction from the Winston West guys or their families and crew. Larry Gunselman, John, Kinder, Sean Woodside, Jeff Davis..... everyone was 100% willing to answer any questions I had for them. They all thought this was a cool project. A few of them shared stories about how they got involved with the exhibition races and what they did over in Japan. Jeff seemed to have a lot of fun taking pictures with the Suzuka Track Girls (lol) and even has pictures of himself with a Japanese fan who won the rear bumper of his #14 car that year (after it got ripped off in like, the first lap accident). Larry said his son currently does iRacing and that he'd point him our way if he needed another racing sim to get involved in.

Honestly, I just think they were all absolutely ecstatic that someone was interested and was shining a spotlight on a pretty awesome time in their respective careers. I can't imagine a scenario in which I could, like, message Rusty Wallace or Ricky Craven or Mark Martin on Facebook and engage them directly with questions about a specific race they drove in. It just wouldn't happen. This project would not have been possible without their input.

The only cars in this set I am not 100% sure on are the #23 and #29. I feel like I'm missing a logo of some sort off the deck lid of the #23 and there is a single associate I can't make out on the #29. I did try and reach out to the two Japanese drivers of those cars (they both appear to still be racing in Japan and/or running driving schools). I received what seemed like a canned 'I will get back to you in time' message from one of them - but I'm not too worried about what's missing off those paint schemes. I have all of the major stuff.

Jeff is a really awesome guy. He loves talking racing in general and really misses it. Even at his age he still feels like he could get the job done behind the wheel. And to be honest, if I owned a car (or truck) I would totally set hm up with a test session. Larry Gunselman is pretty cool too. I even got to do some design work for him back about 2011 when he owned the Cup car Tony Raines and Josh Wise drove. I designed the hero card for the Black Cat Fireworks sponsorship that year and in return they offered me Hot passes for a race. Josh Wise unfortunately DNQ'd but they had a really craptastic motor that weekend and they couldn't figure out the problem.
John Krebs has been great too.
Some of the Busch series guys are always fun to chat with. I have talked to several when I was working on my 1995 and 1996 sets. Andy Belmont was helpful. Shawna Robinson, Doug George, Greg Clark. Even owners too. I only got my Hal Browning photo after I emailed the owner and rather than email a scan he actually sent me a big 8 x 14 print of the car on track.
I even recently have been talking to David Blair (#27 Elton Sawyer 1996) and Bill Venturini.

There's always some schemes I've not seen or know about...
John Andretti drove this special scheme in the two final races of 1998 as a thank you/ tribute to the Florida Firefighters that had been battling the wildfires that summer (the ones that caused NASCAR to reschedule the Pepsi 400 @ Daytona night race from July to October). Was co sponsored by the National Forest Fire Prevention Assoc.

It was essentially a reverse variant of the 1997 'swoosh' paint scheme - with the dayglo red making up the portion above the swoop and a Dupont Chromalusion style paint below the swoop. The colors shift on the Chromalusion paint was between teal, blue, violet and purple.

Are you blending by hand or trying to use the Chromeillusioner software?
............
............
.......there's software for this?

Cus right now I have 5 stacked metallic flake color layers that I'm toying with the layer masks on. Which is actually working out exactly like I want it to. But has someone seriously made a program for this?

Chrome Illusioner was a pretty popular program back in the early 2000s as people posted cars on NNR using it. It allowed for multiple flats to be merged into one car with the texture changing according to the angle the light hits the car. I'm sure there's a newer version than this but I can't quite find it.

I started playing around with this when I made Gordon's Chromalusion car, it's pretty cool!

That's exactly the program I was talking about. It was really cool but never got a lot of use in the community and is largely forgotten.
