NASCAR 06 was always one of my favorite games growing up, and still is to this day. One aspect of the sound design that captured my heart at an early age was the engines of the Whelen Modifieds ingame. They sounded completely different from anything I had heard before either in a game, watching a NASCAR race on TV, or out and about in the real world.
They sounded, for the lack of a better term, beefy. The combination of their design and the sound they had in game instantly made me fall in love with them, and to this day I still want to own one, even if it's just to drive around town with.
For years, I had wondered - and even attempted to find - an engine sound pack that put the Modified engine from NASCAR 06 into NR2003. I recall coming across the "Sounds of NASCAR 06" sound pack on Sim Racing Design (RIP) however the engine sounds it had were not only not the Modifieds but... also not quite the regular engine sounds used by Cup, Busch, and the Trucks either. Like the pitch was off.
As they say, if you want something done right, you do it yourself. Since I lack the technical knowhow to extract sound files from a PlayStation 2 game - let alone an EA Sports PS2 game, the stuff that Ty Thunder on Twitter does to showcase all the cut content in the EA NASCAR games is actual sorcery to me! - I booted up the game in an emulator and recorded a few takes qualifying around Rockingh- I mean Mr. Clean Speedway to isolate the sounds of a solo engine. Then I ran it through Audacity, chopped out what I needed, and put it together to try and make it sound right in NR2003.
After a little trial and error, I believe I have something good enough to publish. May adjust pitch again further down the line, but it's good enough as is right now.

Drop the files into the sound folder in your NR2003 install.
