I got one with NASCAR Legends, a Sierra Torino
Yeah, there were a 2 that were available with copies of Nascar Legends.

A Plymouth Superbird, #41.

NASCAR Racing 2003 Season was my first PC based racing game a few days after release, ya know, payday, I've bought older titles since then, but that was my first. Simply because I just got my first PC the month before, before that I was a Nintendo player.

Started with the keyboard for a week, got a game controller, then went on eBay a month later and bought a used Thrustmaster no force feedback wheel. 2 months later bought a Logitech Momo.

About 2 weeks after buying the game I went on-line to see if I could find the rest of the Dodge's and the real beer can cars, found the US Pit's, the rest is history.

About a week after I got my first wheel I started in the lobbies, then went looking for a league, found sim-racing.org and the rest is history.

I devoured all the information I could find and for the better part of the next 15 years that's all I played.

I actually came online to look for some N4 cars, don't know what made me think something like that existed, I had no idea of the sim racing community's breadth and depth or that it even existed...went right out and bought NR2003 once I realized that there was more out there (in here?)

First sim was NASCAR Legends and shortly after NASCAR 3 . They were great games and I always thought the AI did things in those games that the following versions missed. It was easier to adjust the AI as well. I wish those sims could've run at 60 fps but like GPL, capped at 36. Bought NR2003 next, about a year after it came out, brand new for 14.99. Bought and played many NASCAR sims after but NR2003 is still king. Still waiting for the elusive mid/late 70's mod but if I never see it, I've been spoiled by the embarrassment of riches given by the mod makers and painters.

No.

To that end, the BR Gen 6 '15 Mod wears the noses and tails of late 70's cars quite well.

A common styling queue in the 1970s was the strip bar across the front; which housed both the grill and the headlights (single/dual). I've even found that it can wear something like the 1970s Datsun 240Z quite well.

Have a play with those things and then tell us what you think.
That's how I got here with the 1969 HG Monaro and the 1977 XC Falcon

I had always been a NASCAR fan as a kid, but had always been more of a casual fan, not watching all the races or learning the names of all the regulars. In 2001, there was a a big push by Fox and NASCAR to promote the Daytona 500, and so I had watched it most of the day, but ended up hanging out with some friends before it was over. It wasn't until later that night when I went home and found out that Earnhardt had died. Even though I was a casual fan, he had always been my favorite. After that I became more of a die hard fan. One day I was in a store with my parents (I was 15 at the time) and I found a game called NASCAR Racing 4. At the time we had just gotten a new computer with "hi-speed dial up." I think it took me about 6 minutes to download each car off of the pitwagon website back in the day.

Yeah the pitwagon was the number one place to go for better car's. I spent a ton of time at that site and the team lightspeed boards back then. I've been around on and off since nr4 although I had legends as well. Crazy after all these year's nr03 is still hanging around and easily the best 40 bucks I've ever spent! And yes when I started painting with nr4 I used the paint booth in the game. Thankfully those are long gone. Nothing of value was lost for sure. lol

My dad had Indianapolis 500: The Simulation and I played that at first. I got Nascar Racing 2 in 1996 when it came out, got it in a school Scholastic book flyer (boy were my parents upset when they found out it was a video game). I played that for awhile until NR1999 Edition came out and I played that extensively. I got NR4 at some point but didn't play it much, but that is where I found you could download cars online. I eventually found NR2003 site including PWF in 2003, and from there I joined most of the popular sites (The Pits, The Pit Wagon, Masgrafx, TFR Detail Shop, RuRa, Team Lightspeed, etc). I first started racing online in 2004, and painting in 2005. Since then I have been pretty involved and painted for a number of sites including O'Racing, Masgrafx, 4 Wide race/Elite Paint Designs, and founded Ground Pounder Designs with JR Franklin in 2012.

Well lads, this will really carbon date me (LOL) but I treated myself on my 40th birthday in 1995 with a copy of N1.
(Do the math, you'll figure out at 66 I've been at this for 26 years.)
I remember how thrilled I was to buy a 486 computer and a Thrustmaster T1 wheel so I could really get into it.
Of course this was followed by N2, N99, N3, N4, NR2002, NR2003.

I already had Indycar Racing but have always been more of a stockcar fan. Used to run full season full length (500 miles) races in N2 and N3 at 97% AI.
I've won one offline championship in 1997.
Never bothered painting cars as there were so many great sites to fill my roster so I focused on improving my driving skills and puttered a little with the AI edits that I still do today. I'm still not a painter but I can at least create a few cars for personal use that please me.
I also did my own ABCD rating system for the carsets that really worked well. My weakness were qualifying and pitstops.
And yes I have always avoided the roadcourse tracks because for the life of me I cannot find decent setups. Interesting because I have always enjoyed these tracks in the Arcade style racing games. (Nigel Mansel or Al Unser come to mind)

As for other racing games; I've likely tried them all at some point or other. Some personal faves include Micromachines, Al Unser Indycar Racing; MarioKart with the kids, Nascar Sim Racing, Nascar Heat, Bill Elliot Nascar Challenge, TopGear, Need For Speed ...the list is endless. Just really enjoy auto racing.

I just bought my grandkids a 1/32 scale slotcar Scalextric Stock car set featuring 2 early 90's style Monte Carlo and a track that resembles Daytona. They're gonna love it! And my daughter got them a Nascar game for their Nintendo.
As you can see, the love of racing has been passed on to the next generation LOL

I enjoyed them all (Papyrus): Indy 500, IndyCar Racing, IndyCar Racing 2 for OWR; NR1, NR2, NR 1999, NR3 & NLegends, NR2002 and NR2003. I love any of them but NR2003 is the absolutely milestone!
The only disadvantage of NR2003 is that you can't save a game while the race. I remember the time of NR3: I drove whole seasons with 100% length because you had the opportunity to save a race anytime you wanted. With NR2003 you may shorten the race because a crash can happen - it's running still fine on Windows 10 ... but nevertheless it's an older program.

I hear you and I was doing the same thing. Back in the day my time was really limited so some nights I only had 30-40 mins to race and it was a great stress reliever to be able to continue a race for a while.
