What drives me crazy as I'm trying to help researching some images for these forgotten rides is the fact that maybe there are pictures of the driver itself from that season, but all from local short track races held weekly. And not even a single clear one from a damn NASCAR Winston Cup Series event? I mean, the main stock car racing series? Really? Just, wow. (Terrific job as always btw. Glad that the 24 car for Sonoma has been covered)
Photo taking practices of the time were different. There being no modern version of the internet and limited other forms of media, photos were rarely taken of back markers by the on-site photographers, be it NASCAR related or independent ones. And, because of limited media, rarer photos have a much more difficult time finding their way online. Especially this many years later. Scanners were still being used by those who even possessed one until basically the 2000s (and even beyond that). Even then, photo uploads were still somewhat limited. High speed connections weren't a very common thing yet. So, there's a lot working against finding photos of cars that barely saw a single race.
This can be similar for short tracks of the time, too. Though, photographers on a regional or local level will tend to be a bit more thorough. Simply being that on that level things are a bit less business and a bit more personal/pleasure. So, everyone liked photos of their cars from the front of the field to the back. This does make finding those types of photos much easier. Keep in mind as well, the drivers that only see a couple Cup races are often front row/winning material on the local/regional level. So, as such, you'll see a ton of photos of someone like Randy Porter as he won races all the time locally.
Likely there are photos of Porters cup car(s) that exist in someone's archives. But, the likelihood of seeing them is slim as there's simply nobody looking for them or caring about them. We do, now, for this project happening 30 years later. But that's a drop in the bucket of time. So, I present the only clear photo the internet has to offer for the time being. A shot from someone in the stands taking a photo of the qualifying line at the first Richmond race where Randy DNQ'd.
The pattern of the contigs would suggest this is the same car used for both Charlotte & Talladega. They are all 3 completely identical and the layout is a bit chaotic. When they're like that, they rarely match from car to car.
Naturally, it's never a thing that a larger team with many cars would use the same car on a short track vs. a speedway and often times had dedicated super speedway cars, too. But, in the case of Porter, I'd bet all my money on them only having 1 car, as they fielded it themselves.
