Here is the first paint on the Monte to showcase what the finished product looks like all dressed up. And of course it is a Dale Earnhardt car. Simple to make, Inconic design that nevevr loses its luster, I can see why it gets made so many times.

I can't express how enjoyable it is to paint on your own template, that is put on your own 3d model. Definately something special about it.

Thanks for the offer, I'll remember that. I'd love to put my models in NR2003, if only it were not for the hardcoded 4 model cap, as there are too many body styles I want to include.

I've have heard some rumblings about ways to circumvent that, but I might take that up in a private chat not to clog up this thread.

have you ever had an issues with the rear ends bending towards the middle and making straight lines bend down visually on the mesh?

Most of my lines on the rear are fine, the only issue is the nose, as it is curved similar to the Cup98 mod, so some trickery is required there.

Today I finished a model I had started a week or so back, and just now had the time and (mostly) motivation to finish.

Here is my representation of a 1996-2002 Pontiac Grand Prix
Still needs some refinement, probably will try and round off the rear bumper, as well as make the nose more angular.

Still need to massage the nose and the rear a bit more, but it's coming together. Also brand new for me, 3d wheels.

For this project I have settled on hand-drawn pixel art for the paint schemes to give it that personal touch. This particular car is based off of the Dodges fielded by Raymond Fox in the late 60's.

Re-opening this dusty old thread

With the resurgence in interest around N2, and my own retro interests at an all time high, I took the NASCAR Racing 2 car model, imported it into Blender, and started modifying it to make various 80's car body styles.

----First up is the General Motors G-Body Brigade----

Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS

The first car among the lot is the Monte Carlo SS. This initially was supposed to be the Aero Coupe version, but since the N2 models don't have windows, it doesn't really matter.

Buick Regal

Most of these G-Body's will be Montes with different snouts, this one with extra nose geometry added to get the right shape. The Buick was the second most prominent G-Body in the NASCAR fold.

Pontiac Grand Prix

The Pontiac while not as ubiquitous as the above two brands had it's fair share of diehards, notably Richard Petty. This also has extensive nose work.

Oldsmobile Cutlass

The Oldsmobile appeared only in a handful of races outside of 1981, as the other makes were simply better. The nose on this one I'm not happy with, and likely will give a rework, as it should be lower and deeper.

Oldsmobile Delta 88/Buick LeSabre

The LeSabre and Delta 88 were literally the same car bar the upper grill layout. The LeSabre had a different window in 1986, but I'm not sure how big a priority that is to model. On the other hand, it should be easy......

Buick Regal (1988 Edition)

The beautiful looking 1988 Regal in all it's low-poly glory. One of my favorite race cars of the 80's, sadly was neutered a year or two later

Pontiac Grand Prix(1988 Edition)

The W-Body Grand Prix, this car is another one that I think looks quite nice if I do say so myself

Dodge Mirada/Chrysler Cordoba

Here is the Dodge Mirada, a car that I'd say was as frequent an entry as the Cutlass, primarily due to the diligence of Buddy Arrington.

All of these cars are basically the same bar a slight change in nose geometry between makes. Primarily used in the Busch ranks in the mid-late 80's.

Ford Motor Company

Ford Thunderbird(1987 Version)

The 213 mph wonder itself, this car is probably one of the more distinct models in my collection, with the long pointed nose and rounded shapes.

Mercury Cougar(1987 Version)

Never ran in NASCAR but technically an eligible body style according to the rule book. The rear quarter window is goofy as heck, while the nose isn't as pointed as the 'Bird.

Ford Mustang

Not eligible for NASCAR, I decided to do the more "iconic" liftback instead of the Notchback, though I could always add that as an option......

Other GM Models

Buick LeSabre

Well, in the previous post I pondered if I should model the LeSabre with the alternate quarter window. In the end, I decided it would be an easy change, so here we are.

Oldsmobile Cultass(W-Body Version)

The 1988 Spec W-Body Cutlass, with the iconic super thin C-pillar.

Chevrolet Lumina

The final of General Motors W-Body Brigade, the Lumina was introduced a year later than it's brethren but had by far the most success.

Buick Somerset

The First N-Body made, the Somerset was built and tested for the canned L-R series, and that is what this car is based off of.

This selection contains a fair few more "out there" model choices that are not usual NASCAR fare

Dodge Challenger/Plymouth Sapporo/Mitsubishi Galant Lambda

Another Mopar potential entry, as a part of Chrysler Corperations partnership with Mitsubishi came the 2nd gen Challenger. Being a Mistubishi re-badge means it adds the first foreign car to my roster.

Chrysler LeBaron

Another Mopar, this one actually existed IRL, but as an ARCA car. Chrysler tried to homologate it for NASCAR but it was unfortunately too short.

Chevrolet Camaro

The counterpoint to the Mustang, the Camaro was incredibly popular amongst the short track ranks throughout the 80's

These next 2 are from the land down under, and go together as natural rivals.

Holden Commodore(VL)

The Commodore is a bit farther fetched into the design, as the rear quarter windows were tricky to get right due to the commodore having a "4-pillar" design that the current model doesn't replicate. The Commodore actually
ran in competition in the Australian NASCAR Series, but that was the generation after the VL.

Ford Falcon(EA)

The Ford Falcon is the other side of the Australian coin, and this car model in particular also competed in the Australian NASCAR series alongside the Holden, both home-grown additions to the primary Chevy/Buick/Olds/Pontiac/Ford brigade.

Back to playing with Papyrus models, this time I heavily Reworked and remapped the N3 Carshape into a 2000 Monte Carlo.

So I decided to go further with the above idea, and push it closer to something I could get into NR2003. So here is the updated Low-Poly Monte Carlo



The rear quarter windows are filled in now, a personal choice allowing for ease of making alternate templates, while the Tire textures are mapped to the same texture as the body itself, allowing me to not only change the rim color, but the sidewall lettering and even tread design on a per car basis, say if I wanted to add treaded Hoosier dirt track tires. The rest of the windows and the chassis/interior (which is less of an interior proper right now and more of a black floor pan and shell) are placeholder materials/textures, of which I will update at a later point.
