For once, would be cool for the Champion to not win the race... only needs to be the highest finisher.

Maybe a non Final 4 wins? If they have a bad day...
I always thought that was fishy, I don't believe that winners are pre determined, but NASCAR has to be telling non playoff drivers to take it easy around the final 4 on the last race. No way is going to ALWAYS be a playoff driver that wins the final race.

"Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movement of small green pieces of paper, which was odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy."

That would be Kyle Busch, Byron or Bowman... one more, Brad Keselowski (He lead a lot of laps there last year).

SHR has shown signs of progress late in the season... maybe Childers & Harvick can get their sh1t together for another win at Phoenix.

Fun with speadsheets:
If I apply "The Goof" Scoring system:
364 Kyle Larson
272 Chase Elliott
230 Martin Truex Jr.
242 Denny Hamlin

The last time that Larson was even challenged for the title was at Dover back in May.

This whole playoff system is garbage.

Garbage ?? or Drama ?? Could be both, but I think NASCAR wants the Drama and it does create it. - Either Larson or Chase wins Sunday

Without the playoffs, most of the season would still have seen a close battle between Larson and Hamlin. Larson dominating races, while Hamlin consistently lurking under the radar with good runs not far behind.

I remember a person on Youtube posting updates on the "non-playoff" standings, where for most of the season the #5 and #11 have been neck and neck. Despite Larson blowing the doors of everyone, Hamlin has/had been putting in solid result after solid resuls, though Martinsville likely put a damper on his hopes in the "non-playoff division"

I'll hope Larson will make it, because I'm a fan of him since 2014 and he is clearly the best this season. But my feeling says Hamlin, but I'll hope I'm wrong.

I really feel it will not be the drivers that causes issues but the crews will with pitstop issues, lugs or others.

Hamlin lost his chance at Homestead years ago because the car fell off the jack.

Who ever can punt the leader off on the last lap?

I want Denny to win the title, I feel like this is his time. As a UK NASCAR fan I will be going to bed unable to sleep cos I have to know who wins. Its like being a kid on christmas eve, except the last 2 years ive been disappointed. Hopefully this is the year.

I Think you got it correct... The Crews made the difference.

Alan Jones (1980 Formula One World Champion) once remarked on an F1 commentary that the driver who is the single most important component, still only accounts for about 15% of performance. I think that's mostly true because a great driver can't generally climb over a dog of car, but a mediocre driver can potentially win a title in a good car.
