Was NASCAR right to take away Hamlin's win and DQ Kyle as well? Teams had been warned more than once, don't do anything to the cars. This was the first time since 1960 that a Cup win was taken away. I think it was to much, maybe the penalty should have been more like what happened to the #34 car.

I find it hard to believe that a piece of tape 0.012 inches thick could give a car an aero advantage, that's what NASCAR is claiming. I only wonder was it stopping air from going between the body parts and giving the car an advantage.

Anyway, I don't care for Hamlin, so it doesn't bother me - I do like JGR and Kyle. I would like to know more. What do any you you think about the whole situation?

No.
It depends where the tape was and what it was for.

The way that I read this is that they were placed here:

As these were place underneath the wrap, my suspicion is that JGR was trying to create or adjust the vortices spinning out of the pinch point of the front air dam.

You want little vortices to spill off the front of the car, to use as a barrier to other airflow. At +160mph that means that the downforce being created underneath the car is going to be more protected, more stable and perhaps stronger.

Did it work?
Toyota qualified all 6 cars no worse than 12th, then apart from Ty Gibbs got 5 cars in the top ten.

If that's what's happened (which seems the most likely story to me) then JGR was playing shenanigans with the aero and got caught out.
