Mac McAnally narrowly missed the Top 40 in the Spring of 1983, peaking at #41 with a tune I refer to as "pure pop perfection". It would have been Mac's 2nd Top 40 (the only was "It's a Crazy World" in 1977, peaking at #37). Mac would go on to have a Top 15 Country hit and share a #1 with Kenny Chesney, plus tons of hits as a writer, so I think he's done pretty good for himself!
With a hit song that borrow riffs from the Doobie Bros., plus his bearded appearance (a la Michael McDonald), some has called Yacht Rocker Robbie Dupree "Robbie Doobie". IMHO that is an injustice, as I feel Robbie is very talented in his own right.
Find him, bind him;
Tie him to a pole and break,
His fingers to splinters.
Drag him to a hole,
Until he wakes up, naked;
Clawing at the ceiling of his grave.
