    The artist with the most #1 hit singles in Country music in the 1980's was....

    Earl Thomas Conley.

    This song, from 1983, still pops up from time to time on some of the local "New Country" stations.

    I first heard this song (and this artist) on the radio in my Mom's 1980 Olds Toronado when I was 7 years old. Believe it or not, it was on a Pop station! (#1 Country/#43 Pop).
    England Dan Seals and Paul Davis, you are still missed.

    Bill LaBounty had a few minor soft rock hits in the late 70s/early 80s before going into Country music and achieving great success as a songwriter, in particular for Steve Wariner.
