I believe that people are being corrupted by corporations into being the dumb as doornails, hateful, disrespectful, lazy, selfish people we see today. If they aren't the main cause they at least aren't helping.
For example, go back 30 years ago to when I was a kid and you go to a big box store (Walmart, Sears, Kmart, etc) and the doors were ones that you had to pull open. You saw people opening doors for others and people went in the entrance and came out the exit. Today though, all of them have automatic doors and you'll see people go through the exit rather then walk the extra couple of feet to the entrance.
I just use those doors as an example but my point is that they keep coming up with more and more ways that they are taking away the need for people to have to do things for themselves, which in turn makes them lazier and selfish for having everything done for them.
I think that’s the thing to think about. In the 80s and 90s the networks covered the race for what it was. Now the networks try and make the race be something so much more then it is and often it doesn’t live up to the hype they make it to be. If they stopped overhyping it and covering it as it should be it might be easier to watch.
To quote a conversation from King of the Hill:
HANK: "Firm, but with little give. Yep. These are medium-rare."
BOBBY: "What if somebody wants theirs well done?"
HANK: "We ask them politely, yet firmly, to leave."
