ok guys, tell the truth, is this like the best kept secret of nr2003?

no throttle plate
9000 rpm
aggressive ai
super simple car setup
210mph

...load up your aero88 1987 carset and fly :)

* just my opinion, yours may differ.

i'm trying to find more technical info about arcade mode. the only info i found is that you cant blow a tire from wear. thats it, no other info at all, none, nada.

the simplified setups i can actually appreciate. i wanna race not play crew chief.

in the game the only difference i see is that the ai drive like tire wear doesnt matter, until they use them up.

otherwise, there is nothing "arcady" about arcade mode.

Other than the "original" NR2003 tracks, I think arcade mode is the most ignored feature in the track.ini by builders. Some will add a setup file for it but they simply don't try it. I doubt that you will ever find information about setting anything up for it. If you do please let me know. I've never seen anything either...

ah yes, i can see how that would be a problem for ppl who dont know how to fix all that.

i'll check to see if tweaking arcade mode is any different. i'm assuming its the same. which would mean just copy/paste the track info and car setups and all should be good. (?) ive only tried superspeedways so far. its gonna take some time to discover the sim/arcade differences without any documentation.

first thing i learned...
* arcade mode does not give a hoot about cts or gns or any of that. its cup, period.

second thing i learned...
* arcade mode specs are "in addition to" sim specs.

to add a decent arcade mode to any track, this is all you need to do.

install arcade car from similar track.

set these specs:
ai_arcade_tire_wear = 0.01
ai_arcade_fuel_use = 1.00
ai_arcade_grip_modifier = 0.80
ai_arcade_drag_modifier = this is the only spec that needs to be dialed in. (1.00 - 1.50 range typically)

thats it.

As a curiosity, arcade mode in NR2/1999, NR3 and Nascar Legends are a lot fun because there is a little rubber banding and race become very competitive (looks like that NR2003 Adaptive AI option).

more info on arcade superspeedway setups.

unrestricted spoiler
unrestricted ride height
unrestricted everything

again, 1987?
45* spoiler and drop the ride height down to Darrell Waltrip levels to get what little spoiler there is out of the air.

she'll be squirlly, but she'll be fast!

max fuel run @ daytona = 65 miles.
i dont think i would make it to 67.5, and theres no way i was gonna make 70.
i was last to pit.

This is interesting to me, especially the bit about the AI tire wear. I've tried desperately (mostly in vain) to make the superspeedway racing at least *somewhat* interesting. Interested in what else you find. If you turn debugging on in papy_ai.ini, you can see supposed tire wear, which I thought was controlled by the values you were mentioning.

Btw, I edited the exe to unlock the garage settings for SS chassis types, you can find it in another thread, or I can post it here.

i'll try to get that testing done tonight.

keep in mind arcade mode is already confirmed.
ive been reviewing the nr2002 track.inis and they are actually using this (arcade) feature to tune the ai. :thumbsup:

apparently the GTP community know all about this tire_wear thing and take full advantage of it.

its just us nascar guys that get "this adjusts tire wear" for tutorial discriptions :mad:

so even w/o testing this yet im pretty sure its going to control cornering speed.

we just need to update our tutorials, and make this info more well known.

where did you for info this for GTP? I have some of their things bookmarked... anyone who makes a mod that well executed must know the ins and outs pretty well...

GTP track tutorial. very informative, very thorough. practically a walk thru for GTP track tweaking.

i just had a feeling that they knew more then we did.

more info on arcade superspeedways.

rubbins' racin
car contact is equal in arcade mode. the ai cant push you around so easily. contact, even heavy contact is survivable and its not always you who loses.
bumper tag is also safer.

cts and gns run just fine in arcade mode ~ but there is a setup files issue. might be better off just using cup physics. im not big on alt physics, so someone else will need to investigate this further.
