And a BONUS for today, because this thing came out so awesome I can't NOT share it!

Spencer's final ride of 1997 and his first with the change over to Winston cigarettes as a sponsor in a marketing lead up to the '98 season. I always felt like this was supposed to be the primary scheme for 1998 but it was supplanted pretty early by the straight red and white of the 'No Bull' design. It's a looker for sure with all of the gold chromed outlines and numbers.

I did a "what if" of that car on the 98 Taurus a little while ago. Honestly that should've been the primary from 1998 on, it is absolutely gorgeous. Brilliant job!

I kinda wonder if this scheme suffered the same fate as the Cartoon Network Happy Birthday scheme on the #9. Nascar deemed that the cake splatter and confetti that was originally featured on the door and roof numbers obscured the numbers too much - which is why when the scheme ran later in the year with Nadeau driving it had much less icing and confetti on the sides and none overlying the numbers.

I can see them looking at this Winston scheme and making the call that those chrome gold numbers were too hard to read against the maroon background.

It's NASCAR... so it's hit or miss, lol. No chrome, blah blah.... years at times a car has chrome numbers.

The chrome trim on the scheme looked great also.

It's rare to find drivers nowadays that are immediately associated with a particular set of colors. And it's a little hard to believe that by 1997, Gordon was already in his 5th year running the Dupont rainbow scheme. This scheme ran unchanged from '92 - 2000 and has made a multitude of appearances as throwback and tribute schemes since then.
