strange problem ~ testing a newly finished track, everything is perfect! except the car shadows are 180* in the wrong direction.

(i'm a Sandbox newbie)
any suggestions on a fix?

TIA

a screenshot would just show the car shadow going the wrong way compared to the track shadows. im assuming light source is skymap?

i did figure out that its more like 220*, the exact orientation the track should be in.

i tried editing "north" in the track.ini ~ didnt work.

i tried editing skymap orientation in sandbox ~ that fixed the problem, and screwed the rest of the track :confounded: i dont think sandbox likes (porting) NR4 tracks. i see this same problem (shadows) with NR2002 tracks also. might have to find an old NR4 track editor, or hopefully a simpler fix.

am i missing something?

A screenshot would allow me to contextualize what looks incorrect. The shadows on a track are baked in whatever direction you added them. The car shadows will move depending on the angle of the lights (if its a night track). If its a day time track I believe in sandbox you set the sun angle in there.

yup ~ know all that, did all that.
unfortunately sandbox doesnt like NR4 tracks, it deleted ALL override commands, they are probably incompatible with sandbox.

i did a little research and discovered that NR4 and NR2002 both use the track.ini for track orientation (i was right) and there is no orientation info in the PTF. nr2003 and sandbox read it as 0.

the rest of the track is 100% completed, and looks exactly like it does in NR4, except for this shadow bug.

here's some screenshots of the problem,

any ideas would be appreciated ~ TIA

Sky rotation needs to match the track shadows (for example the shadows seen on the walls). Those shadows are just shadow maps though and can literally be manually deleted within sandbox itself, they are not actually pre-baked or generated by the lighting engine in NR2003.

You need to adjust the sky rotation in sandbox here:

The car shadow is a dynamic shadow in the game (in terms of rotation on the track surface). Does your track have any sky mips in the track folder itself? It could be overriding the NR2003 one which the NR2003 has a Sun includes which dictates the light direction.

General rule of thumb in troubleshooting is isolating everything until the root cause is found. For example have you started with a fresh track ini that is from NR2003?
Does your track folder contain any NR4/NR2002 sky mips? (remove them)
If you can rotate the sky angle in sandbox of another base NR2003 track but yours does not then you know there is an isolated issue with just your track and not the actual sky rotation option themselves.

I have built several tracks and when I rotate the sky rotation in sandbox it reflects the direction of the car shadow rotation in the game too
