There are 3 MasGrafx formulas in NRatings. One each for CUP, GNS, and CTS. My question is, are these formulas used based on the series or on the physics? For example, if I run a CUP series using CTS physics, which formula would I use? Thanks for any clarification.

I'm pretty sure it is based on the physics. In theory, real life CUP cars are going to run faster laps than GNS cars and GNS cars will run faster laps than CTS trucks.

So, to answer your question, you can use any of the 3 (CUP, CTS or GNS) MasGrafx formulas you want on whatever physics you want. In other words, if you have cars with ".cup" in their file name, you can still apply the MasGrafx formula for CTS or GNS. The cars will be rated and work just fine. The difference will be in how fast they run.

I'll end my answer with the disclaimer that I do not know this as fact as I do not know the author of these formulas and what methodology he used in creating them. This is just in what I have seen in testing that I did many years ago.

Thank you for your input. It is much appreciated. I am aware that you can use any formula for any series/physics. I was hoping to find out what the intended use for the formulas were for, series or physics. I'll have to try like you did and test them out and see what the results are. I was just hoping someone had some insight as to their intended use.

I'm only speculating, but I'm guessing that he developed the "Cup" formula to be used for only the Cup series cars, the "GNS" formula for only the Busch/Xfinity Series cars and the "CTS" formula for the only Truck Series.

Perhaps difficult question to answer but is it the best formula available? It seems to me that many tracks have been created using this formula

If I had to guess, I would say that it mainly has to do with schedule length and field size. For example, CTS has shorter races, shorter seasons and less drivers the the two series above.

Thanks everyone for your input. Unless more definitive info comes to light, I'm going to assume that, like J.R. Franklin said, each formula is based for the series and not the physics. Thanks again. Although, I'm still going to test it out at some point and see how each formula compares to the other.
