Hey guys, it's been a while since I dusted off the digital paint brush and painted something. I'm in the process of doing a bunch of 1969 cars that haven't been done or have been done not very accurately. I have about 20 done so far and will share when I'm done. I need an opinion from you folks about something. I have started doing the older model Fords using Martinrace's Fairlane template. Now most of the Fords I see are Galaxies with the stacked headlights and I tried cobbling together a grill but of course the side headlight plates are too small to be accurate but look like a Galaxie. I love the Fairlane grill but of course it's not accurate for the models of the time. As you see, I've just started on an early Hoss Ellington (late 69 one is done) . So what do you think, do I go with the not accurate Galaxie grill or the more pleasing Fairlane one. I prefer the Fairlane myself and am willing to sacrifice the accuracy. I will be sharing these so I need to know what people will be happy with.

Somebody painted up some cars with the stacked headlights and they didn't come out too bad. Not sure who the painter was, but here is one that I found in my collection -

I'd go for historical accuracy IF you can get them to look decent. The headlights on this one look pretty good, IMO.
Most importantly, have fun!! I hope to get to add them to my collection. :)

I went to RR to see about this race the winner Leeroy Yarbrough got over 22000 the 40th place driver got 600 bucks. Only 2 drivers on lead lap 3rd was 4 laps back. 10th was 6 laps back and 20 cars were not running at the end.

So I'm getting near the end of the road here as I'm running out of reference resources. I should have about 35 cars for about 50 drivers. Anyway here's a couple of notes about the progress.

Here's the 00 car that ran in 3 races in 1969. I took a little artistic license here as I hate the look of a naked quarter panel if I can help it. So this was a former Dave Marcis car that the 3 is painted over to look like a 0 which explains the non-symetrical look of the zeros. Since the 00 car is sponsored and owned by the same company I thought I'd leave the sponsors name on instead of painted over like on pictures of the 00 I've found. There's also a "D" on the 00 car as it used to say "DAVE" (don't know why the didn't painted out the whole name) So for myself I'm happy with the sponsor name on the quarter panel but I could paint it out if people would like it that way.

Also here's a couple of more paints. I've never tried my hand at shading a template before but I needed to get a '67 GTX look and I'm really happy with how I did on my first effort, you learn something new every day!

So I have to make allowances working with the Roadrunner model and it's 3D profile when trying to make it into a Ford. I prefer to move the engine numbers around to where they won't go over the top of the existing RR hood grills and distorting the numbers. The numbers aren't in the exact hood placement location but they do look better flat. This is just pointed out in case people are wondering why the numbers aren't next to the fenders.

Another thing, I remember when the GN70 mod first came out and it had these small tool chests with stacks of tires but V3 has the larger more modern tool truck. So do I just go ahead using what came with V3?

I use the toolbox pit crew. Was trying to get the helmetless pit crews in but had issues with the officials being wonky.

A tale of two Oldsmobiles:

So Ken Meisenhelder ran 16 races in 1969 with an older 67 Olds, so being that it was the longer sedan type, I had to go back to the RR and try to shade it and slap a new grill and tail on it. It's alright but doesn't translate that great to the RR model.

The 69 Olds works so much better on a Chev body. This car, driven by Mel Gillete, had one start in '69 which is a shame 'cause I love the scheme.

Just when I think I've found all the obscure cars I can find, another one pops up. Here's Walson Gardner who had a half dozen starts all on short tracks. He's flanked by a Giachetti machine that had a number of different drivers in 1969.

So I'm up to 40 cars now. I might reach 45 but I don't know......

If you don’t mind me asking, will the GN69ST templates here like the ‘67 Plymouth GTX, ‘67 Fairlane, etc be released at some point? Just wondering

Since my templates are just modifications of other's work, I wouldn't feel comfortable with releasing them on my own. Sorry about that.
