During ICR mod development I had a ton of prototype features, lot of things that got cut, one of them was indeed a fire effect for the debris during crashes. For screenshots it looked 'ok' but actual racing didn't look good. Main reason being I couldn't animate the fire effect, debris.3do doesn't allow any animation code as far as I tried (would probably be a massive tank in fps as well). So it was just a static fire effect.

N4 had the fire sound play after a hard wreck, but Papyrus did remove the fire mip. The sound was later removed/stopped in the patch IIRC.

I do miss the car stalling and having to refire if you didn't clutch (even with auto clutch) during a spin.

I, too, wish the clutch was more realistic so that, if selected, you couldn't shift without using it or, like you said, it would stall out.

maybe, just maybe newer computer technology in coming years may just be able to have ability to make more modifications to the games core
