When it comes to naming legends of the sport, Curtis Turner no doubt ranks up near the cream of the crop. A member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, inducted in 2016, he was undoubtedly one of the more colorful characters of his time. Praised for his mastery of driving on dirt, he would go on to win 17 times in the Grand National Series from 1949 until his eventual death from a plane crash in 1970. He also was one of the most consistent competitors in the NASCAR Convertible Division ranking up a total of 38 times.
Additionally, he holds the rare distinction of being one of the few banned from NASCAR for life, for his role in the attempted unionization of NASCAR's drivers. This ban that was eventually repealed by Big Bill France.
