F-section limit?

New track, already running into issues. I realize there's a f-section limit per section, was wondering if any of you have run into an overall limit for the entire track. Sandbox saves my work fine, but an immediate CTD when i try to open the track in-game. I'm basically stuck on one corner of the track, trying to mirror what you see in the pic, the phony road off on the right.

I'm basically running up to/near the limit on f-sections w/ every section, and this seems to be the logical problem. I've run up to the limit of 3dos before...many yrs ago...so this is where my head's at.

Or is there a limit on track surface decals? I've got quite a few of those, but my money is on f-sections. Or how about a limit on f-sections 'Mark as Euclidian'. I've got a ton of those too.

I haven't encountered that but if you have a lot of f-sections (and possible w-) set to Mark as Euclidian maybe one of them crosses an x-section somewhere?

No w-sections yet. No x-sections in the area i'm talking about either. Head-scratcher for sure. Not the end of the world, i can certainly do something else in the corner but i've had my heart settled on doing this sort of track for many years...will defeat the purpose of the build if i gotta band-aid this one corner.

I'm worried i might be bumping up against a limit of some sort and i have yet to add all the sidewalks, track surface decals or even a pitlane. And if i can't get the look i'm going for i just might throw this one in the dumpster.

Yes there is a limit on how many f sections a single segment can have, I don't remember the exact limit, I think its under 20 for sure. The best workaround is instead of using f sections for paint lines you can place mip decals down instead where possible.

But that's why i'm confused...i'm not over the f-section limit in any segment. Sandbox always warns you anyway.

I appreciate your track decal workaround suggestion...but yeah...how do i break this gently...i've done this trick before. Sorry, i should've mentioned that originally.

I must be breaking a track surface decal or Euclidian limit, only thing that makes any sense. Hopefully someone else here can tell me what those limits are.

So it sounds like your track CTD's in-game. It could be a wide range of issues if its not the F sections giving a warning in sandbox. I see those trucks on the track, whats the poly count on those? Are they a custom 3do model with no LODs or optimizations? If they are roughly over 1k verts that could easily crash the game.

Track is bare-bones at the moment, other than a bunch of track decals, 6-7 lowpoly trees, that 2-way sign, and the blue pickups....i always use the blue Dodge Ram trucks as a size reference (they'll be deleted soon). You don't recognize them, eh? Original Papy fare, in the shared folder.

I *might* have found the culprit. Disconnected x-sections and a completely useless one, a "hangnail" of sorts. All this right in the corner of the track i've been having a problem with. Couldn't see it until i zoomed way in and looked under those f-sections.

But of course in a bit of anger i deleted and emptied my trash bin b/c i thought i was dealing with faulty ptfs. So i gotta rebuild the corner...for like the 20th time. Hopefully i solved it. I'll update this post if/when i move past my issue...might take a few days, the holidays-n-all.

Again, i appreciate the help.

edit 1/1/24 - Started building another track, will get back to this one eventually.
