Just casting a line out into the waters to see if anyone has (or knows where to) download the old Chrome Illusioner program? I hear that v5 or v6 is what is needed to work with NR2k3?

Seems like it came into existence during my first hiatus in the mid-2000s - so I know I'm late to the party, but just now hearing about it! I'd like to try my luck at a few things with it.

So... does this allow a car to change colors while it is racing in NR2003?
Theoretically - that's the way it was explained to me by another member. The program essentially take 10 .car files (you paint each one exactly the same just with a different 'base' color) and compresses them into a single...... thing..... and the game is supposed to see/display a different .car 'layer' (and therefore color) depending on the viewing angle.

My question for @JNorton (WKC) - does building a file this way allow others to download and see it act the same way as you in game? Or do they need to have the illusioner program installed on their machines to get the effect?

Actually I have the program, but I have never used it. `6`
No worries - It's cool. Plenty of research to be done then! Thank you for the assist

Gave it a whirl with a current WIP car last night and Holy Cow it actually works! There are just a couple hoops involved to make it work with mods other than the original cup cars that came with the game - but the effect is absolutely visible in replay mode.

Now that I have an idea of how it behaves in-game - I can start to tweak the paint scheme to react a little more like how I want it to.

It's a little funny to me that a C.I. was a seemingly forgotten tool that I casually mentioned in another thread the other day and now it is blowing up. LOL

I think part of it might be because people used it as a novelty trying to make one car change to a completely different car (at least, that's how it was used in the early days). Slippy has done an expert job of making a real chrome illusion car come to life!

Appreciate the praise - it means a lot to me. I can't tell you how much I love setting up these new little challenges for myself.
