Once upon a time Dan Gurney won his first and only Trans Am rac here at Green Valley. It was during the 1967 Trans Am Series. Driving the iconic Bud Moore prepared Mercury Cougar, Gurney "survived" the race saying, "it was the hardest race he'd ever run". In fact it was the sweltering heat that almost got him as his water system failed. Dehydrated he 'toughed" it out.
