After two and a half months, we've reached the end of the line for team reveals. Introuducing two of the biggest teams in IGPA competition, the two biggest stories, and the last two to be shown off!
The biggest team to NOT make it to the UK 2022 championship is BMW Formula Team, which came as a surprise to many, and leads us to the biggest story in all of the IGPA series for the upcoming season. Their new primary driver, Declan Reynolds, has forgone his chance to contend for a world title in his home country with Barclays Bentley to become the primary driver at another highly prestigious team off the largest contract in IGPA history. Neither will be headed to the UK this summer, but they’ve still invested a lot into their car this year and are ready to make their bold splash a long term move. Their second driver is from BMW’s home country of Germany: Toby Zimmer, looking to not only help the team continue to rebound, but prove his own alongside one of the best in the world.
And we’ve finally hit the end of the road, and we’ve saved one of the best for last, as well as bringing it full circle by finishing in the US. There’s arguably no question that Pepsi Dodge Daytona is the best team in North America, and is a favorite to add another world title to their trophy case this Summer. The team has had a few major title sponsors throughout their decades in existence, but Pepsi has been on board for nearly two decades now, leading to their current red white and blue look being a modern icon. Leading them is two time defending FRA champion, Quebec’s Porter Chaussee, who’s one of the betting favorites for the world driver's championship. Alongside him is Winston-Salem’s Benjamin Young, who’s already a race winner and title contender at 25. If Dodge can keep both their drivers around and stay at the front, we’re in for a 2020s dynasty from them. The question of course starts with can they wrap up a world title this year to get it started?
80 drivers and 40 teams later, all of the cars for the top echelon of open wheel racing have been revealed. Later this week I'll have a final preview and information on release!
