City Life Objects Part 2 v1.0.0.0 Read Me

Note: Anything that also applies to GPL has (GPL Note) Next to it. Please Ignore these for NR2003.

After I saw what was possible with object conversion with the Zanarkand and track, it inspired me to do my own conversions. I know any conversion is now possible to NR2003, especially since it was not even a windows game, and was extracted via a PS2/3 emulator.

This came about by working out: how I can use a ready-made object for NR2003
The objects were converted into 3do format for NR2003 and GPL by Myself (MeandMe AKA Monkeyape) :gorilla: :banana:

All my objects and materials are free to use, as they were free in the first place.

Terminal Reality’s TRI_Team_Death created the objects.

Features

-Never seen before objects. (See Images).

-Already well mapped (There are no bits of transparent areas sticking out).

-Low Polygon count under the limit (4x4 Evo 2s might be lower or around the same as NR2003s) this does not mean a reduction of quality, these now corrected by using Make3do and Mesh Lab, where possible.

-Priority is upped to four, for a sharper image via WinMip2, and seen at all distances is ticked. I have kept the original encrypted file name for posterity.

-Mip files with same 3do where possible (name easier to find), although this time, most had the same names.

-Most objects will already appear in 3D Sim Ed, without restarting it, this is because I used to .PAS file and Make3do Method, as recommended by Cynon and Mystical. Some object might not see below.

-All objects are the size that they came with the games they came from.

Notes on Objects:

This time most of the objects are at the correct scale, with extra help from Cynon and Mystical, which are included in the credits. All objects seem to be working on NR2003.

Backdrop (Horizon)

I did not include this because there is a hole at the bottom of it, which would cause the hall of mirrors effect in the game, otherwise known as the void. I am doing a better one for my track City life.

Buildings

BBS2036 And BBS2050


Only the textures are not working for GPL, a 256BMP is included if you know how to do it. I got BBS2050 working with a different texture (GPL Note).

QLBLB1

It broke when using Make3do, so I had to use, 3DSimEd for this. I manually made the broken windows transparent in this one.

Signs

KM3RTRN


Flipped the image, but works (original right turn image went black, but looks identical to original) (GPL Note).

Trees

Trees are kind of weird looking, not sure why: they just did not want to be transparent and had to manually do them, as much as I could, then, swap the colours so there was no colour bleeding, because my WinMip 2 won’t do TGA files with transparency off of GIMP, but apparently Adobe Photoshop can. Do not worry, they work O.K., and I’ll use them up in my own tracks.

For GPL, the first two trees worked because something called a recursion occurred in ase2-3do but still inflated to over 1000 vertices. Oak80's poly units did get counted but ended up as the world's most high poly tree at 21,909 vertices and 7303 faces and could not be included. (GPL Note).

Any more info on the 3D trees for either NR2003, or GPL is welcome.

U.S. Mail

Alternate texture went black, BMP included. (GPL Note). The alternate texture was made by me, and could be subject to improve.

Vehicles

Oops, they seems to be a little big as mentioned in my work in progress page, even in 4x4 Evo when playing in the game. I’ll have to resize them in 3D Sim Ed.

Mips seem to be black again, I might have to ask about this. KM1CAB did not want to work in Ase2-3do, had the access violation issue. Used normal export: (3D Sim Ed :relievedface:. (GPL Note).

Is the correct size.

Inflated too high for GPL. (GPL Note).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Sometimes in Sandbox, when saving a track, it might be necessary to see watch the file size in KB or the name you saved it as, as you save it. If it turns to 0 or 1 KB, it has not saved, try saving it again. (i.e., the save should be near to your last save number in KB) Possibly a sandbox glitch, not sure if this happens anyway or just with add-on objects.
Also always remember to: After a few saves, save it as a different version number, e.g. city_lifev0.02 then city_lifev0.03 etc.


How I did my objects

I used Mystical’s tutorials; I watched mainly parts II -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LawB374lyA0 (Part 2) and III -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkJKu8kYXDs (Part :relievedface: which was the most important, save to 3do format. I worked out that I did not need to make an object from scratch; I just needed to learn to save it to the correct format.

In addition Mesh Lab and Make3do to lower vertices, where possible. I might also redo some previous objects.

I also had Zmodellerv1.07b, which extracts .bin models into 3DS files, which is very readable by 3D Sim Ed.

If you are a MTM track maker, it is good that all the models already have a vertices limit so it is nowhere near 3000~ or so vertices.
