Hi, I have noticed this for a long time and there's probably nothing I can do about it, but I've been surprised before by asking so here it goes.
On certain tracks like Road America and Sonoma 2013, there may be more but just off the top of my head because I am away from my computer right now. I can see in the cockpit view and the front view, floating or actually flying tire marks on the y or up axis pretty much from top down, they are small, just seems to be on certain designer tracks, I don't know if it's too many layers or what.
Thanks for any help.
Steve

Here it is the arrow shows it, that is just one, a little hard to get more than one in a frame:

I see those also on a few tracks. They mostly only appear on road circuits and tracks that are hi-res and highly detailed.

I have no idea how to eliminate them or exactly what they are.

Yes I'm pretty sure they are tire marks, I tried in a testing session
earlier to get them to show but they didn't, tried single race starting with practice and I probably was just starting the first lap when they started showing.
Maybe something to do with memory? Also as far as I can remember I don't see them on the ovals just the rcs.

Thanks for replying.

I get that in some mods also... Dont think its tire marks, I Think it has something to do with the shadows. Does not happen with all mods/tracks

I just checked again, did 10 laps at sonoma 2013 in testing session and no marks, where as before in single race I just got past the esses and they showed. I like how you caught the exact same mark!!!!

I noticed that too..... lol
I've had the shadows so bad at some tracks, that they would Start at the cars and shoot way up in the air and follow cars. Don't remember what mod that was, but it's long gone now!

JR is correct.. I see this all the time while editing/racing on road courses and if a track has an overpass. It seems to be an issue with NR2003 shadowing and I don't believe there is a fix fir it.

Here is an excellent example of the shadowing issue with an overpass. On road courses it looks more like lines but it's the same issue.

As an experiment, try turning off all shadows and see if that eliminates them.
I will probably try that, the funny thing is that it doesn't happen in a testing session that I have seen, happens in a single race just starting out, no other cars around. Not really a problem, just wanted to see what was up with it. One thing to note is that it doesn't seem to be random because Rob D. caught the exact same mark I did as you can see in the screen shots.

Yeah I have seen the same thing for awhile. It looked like slanted black rain coming down. It wasn't that bad of a graphical issue when racing or recording my races so I never bothered to look into it further. I don't recall seeing it several years ago.

Only guess is some of the newer tweaks we've done with the game like the dll, reshade, or other graphics tweaks might have changed things. Could have been some Windows OS update too, I know they had some game enhance changes. Could also be a graphics card drivers update that changed things behind the scenes as well. So many different possibilities.

It doesn't affect game play, and I've gotten used to seeing those anomalies so it's all good!

The culprit is SHADOWS ON GROUND: FROM CARS

As long as that is unchecked the problem is gone. With and without all
of the shadows checked that one is the only one that causes it.

Go figure the most important shadow has the problem, I will take my lashings for thinking it was tire marks!!!

Thanks

My guess is that it's shadows as well. I do believe there is a setting for it. In the player.ini, I think it's one of these:

enable_CarMegaShader=1 ; set to 1 to enable advanced shaders where applicable
enable_ShadowVolumes=1 ; set to 1 to enable shadow volumes

Whichever one it is, one of the things it does is it calculates shadows and casts them upon a 3do object. It's been a long while, but that's what I remember about it. Clearly, there are some bugs with the feature.

In the player.ini set this line under [Graphic Options] to 0 - enable_ShadowVolumes=0

This should help. You may still see a car shadow if a car is going over an overpass (you'll see it on the bottom side of the overpass) but it shouldn't be projected anywhere else..

Enabling that was part of a graphics tutorial that I did not to long ago, those marks were there before that, I could try it and see what happens. The marks are a little annoying that's about it, it's not ruining the sim, I put the post up just to see if there was something to do to get rid of them.
I do thank you for adding that information
Thanks

I tried a race at the original Infineon track and the marks were still there. I disabled ShadowVolumes only and left CarMegaShader enabled and they were gone, I then tried it at Road America and they were gone. So it appears enabling ShadowVolumes is the only problem as JNorton stated. In the I believe 1.2.0.1 patch from Sierra those were added and manually enabling was the only way to change it. I'm going to read it again to see what that does because I'm forgetting right now, I think it was for shadows on the track walls and also a longer shadow, the Volume part of the function name is a good hint. Adding this after reading the patch read me, yes the shadows are able to be cast on walls with ShadowVolumes so that probably explains the shadows on the overpass, there weren't any overpasses back then, I don't recall if the Eight Bowl track had that, so the odd shadows on the track and overpass are probably a result of the function or functions not taking that into account, maybe no If or switch case for that?
