I also didn't care for racing other people. I just couldn't get around the nasty language and attitudes I was met with. I just wanted to have fun on a great racing sim! :)

For racing online with other people, and in the Cup series, you will only need to pour the money if you want to race at tracks that you don't own. iRacing has a series called the Carburetor Cup and ALL license levels can race. Link here: https://www.iracing.com/series/carburetor-cup/

The current schedule is this (note that as of writing this, iRacing is on Week 6 at Michigan):
1Talladega Superspeedway
2Charlotte Motor Speedway - Oval - 2018
3Daytona International Speedway - Oval
4Autodromo Nazionale Monza - Oval - Left turning
5Talladega Superspeedway
6Michigan International Speedway - 2014
7Daytona International Speedway - 2007 - Oval
8Pocono Raceway - 2011 - Oval
9Talladega Superspeedway
10Charlotte Motor Speedway - Oval - 2018
11Michigan International Speedway - 2014
12Pocono Raceway - 2011 - Oval
13Talladega Superspeedway

So, to run the ENTIRE Carb Cup schedule, you would want to buy:
- (obviously) A Monster Energy Cup car (either Chevy, Ford, or Toyota; you don't need all three, just one)
- Talladega
- Daytona (the version used in race 3, not race 7)
- Monza
All of the other tracks come with your subscription.

With those things you're looking at around $50, however with your specific situation (simply wanting to run the Cup Series), with the Carb Cup you don't have to upgrade licenses or buy extra content! Say they're running at Talladega this week and you don't have Talladega, no big deal! Just take a week off. You don't have to own every single piece of content to enjoy iRacing! ... That's something I wish someone would have explained to me when I started!

As for AI, it's a total game changer for iRacing, however not very many tracks (especially oval tracks) are AI enabled. If you're like me and want to iRace offline, it's like I told Bill above: it would be best for you to wait in buying a subscription; it's just not worth it at the moment.

My only problem with iracing is when some idiot decides to ram through everyone on the pace lap and it costs me my license class. Other than that it's a fun game. Charlotte in street stocks is always a blast!

Ok i decided to pony 15 bucks and gave it another try, May 22nd, then started just concentrating on Street Stock and moving up, then made it to B, then my first purchase had to buy the Xfinity car and N. Wilkesboro , Chicagoland, ran 4 races and moved to A Class with 1 Win, today June 18th, so only bought 4 items to get to Class A and cup level, but now have to the cup car and now each track, once i got to B Class less idiots but some are out there still. While i love NR2003 and the Updated Graphics , and i now can race CUP in iRacing and really don't care to buy more tracks unless i really need to. So to get to cup spent about 36 Bucks. plus 16.99 for 3 months,

Here is my Experience after 1 race after last night with iRacing AI at 2020 Daytona

I started on May 22 with iRacing, now i have my Class A license.
To get to Cup Level with Class A, I had to by 2 Tracks and 2 Cars, Then Bought the New Daytona
{ iRacing will put all Manufactures in your cart, but you don't have to buy them all, just buy the car you want to race }
Stayed with Street Stock thru C Class, Then had to buy the Xfinity Car and 1 track in B Class { Xfinity car Sucked and looser then a goose }

Uploaded the 2020 Daytona Clash Set from Tradin Paints, and did not change the Ratings the Painter used with set.

First this was awesome and very intense, so with that said , its worth buying the cup tracks and if iRacing Painters paint complete race sets, you will want to run iRacing in your season, then split off and run NR2003 in tracks and sets not in iRacing, to run a mirror season with Cup.
AI will run you 3 and 4 wide at any given time, and unlike NR2003 you can't just get the lead and just stay in front of either line cause they just basically run 2 wide and you can pull the faster line.
AI will run all 3 lanes at any given time and will move around all over to get around you, so you have to be focused or your toast. you cannot predict where iRacing AI will run where in NR2003 you basically know exactly what thier AI will do. This is like running LIVE people and not a AI Race.
So Overall i'm sure like old school games that upgrade each year, if iRacing had all the tracks and car sets like NR2003 and didn't cost so much for all the content, a lot of die hard racing would run NR2003 a lot less or not at all.
Takes racing to a whole new level

I can't wait until the rest of it gets released, i'm more excited for Dirt Ai & Indycar.
