Hot Lapping Immersion Discussion

So on the way back from Laguna Seca on Sunday I stopped at Buttonwillow Raceway Park to see what was going on. The Porsche Club of America (PCA) was holding an event so it was pretty cool to hang out and watch. I got to talking with a guy that was running a 991 in an upcoming race, we were talking about learning tracks and he said he had learned Buttonwillow on Forza (didn't say which version) I think it's in Forza 5, 6 or 7 (narrows that down huh?) which is available for pc. Anyway, the guy had learned the track on a sim and we talked about realism. He said he's got a seat and a 60" flat screen and a ps4 in his office that he drives on.

But the thing that sparks this thread for me was that he said he puts a fan blowing in his face to up his immersion....funny, cool, and thought provoking all at once huh?

So what do you do, beyond having your pc a screen, and a wheel (hopefully) for immersion upping factors...?

Well, if it's a nice enough day, I'll pull my laptop out and run some laps on my deck, but that's about as immersive as it gets for this guy.

Never thought of turning on a fan. Might have to give that a go in the future if I'm home alone. My wife might think I'd have lost it if she saw me racing with a fan in my face.

I don't do anything beyond the rig. The fan in the face thing, I don't know about that. After all isn't a full face helmet required by all series now a days? Wouldn't that block the wind?

I'd like to get a better seat the this old kitchen chair I sit in and a curved or multiple monitors one day.

When you use a VR headset you pretty much have to have a fan blowing on you. Not so much for realism but to help keep you cool. Once you go VR for Sim Racing it's hard to go back to a 3 monitor setup. Unless the sim your wanting to play just won't do VR.

Also it's the Gran Turismo Series on the PS4 that has the Willow Springs track variations. The latest GT Sport has Big Willow, Horse Thief Mile and Streets of Willow where as GT 6 had Big Willow and Streets of Willow. Haven't heard of ButtonWillow being released as DLC yet, though there has been requests for it throughout the PS4 community.

Pretty sweet!! Kinda puts a damper on the NR2003 graphics, models and physics.. Though rFactor does that as well.

I'd rather drive A.C., rFactor or Simbin these days over NR2003.

Be careful what you wish for...I was just reading about the SNG MENCS18 for rFactor 2....and an Xfinity mod in the works...most of the tracks are already there...

AND just for fun i'm gonna put up another Pocono HLC...but in GTL...
