I had to get a new laptop about 3 months ago because something broke on it. When I tried reinstalling NR2003 and I opened up the game (I'm using Intel Iris Xe Graphics), it lagged HORRENDOUSLY. About 5-6fps. I tried doing all the graphics updates like the 4gb patch and the sky textures and I even tried reinstalling the game on multiple occasions, but nothing worked. When I tried opening it up on OpenGL, it ran very smooth at around 60fps. But about 2 minutes in, it crashed, and it always does whenever I try to do a race. Does anyone know how or if there's a way to fix the crashing on OpenGL? I don't want to buy a new computer if I don't have to...

I know it's routine, but did you install the patch?
Have you tried with DirectX?
Does it crash with third-party mods and tracks, or with the original mods and tracks?

1. The site I downloaded it from has all the patches so I was able to get those
2. DirectX uses Intel Iris Xe Graphics (my built in graphics)
3. I reinstalled it yesterday and just tried it out with the base mod and tracks (nothing installed) and it was still lagging. That's why I switched to OpenGL.

Well... Let's wait and see if anyone has any more ideas...

Speaking for myself, this has happened to me sometimes. Most of the time reinstalling from scratch and reset the video driver settings solved the problem, but there have been occasions when I had to format the computer.

Does your laptop only have the Iris Xe Graphics card or does it have a Nvidia Card as well. Also is the Iris Xe Graphics card show in the rend_dxg.ini when the game was installed. I purchased a Laptop with the Iris Xe Graphics card, but I returned it because I didn't get NR2003 to work. Ended up buying a Dell Gaming Laptop with dual graphics cards using the preferred Nvidia Card. As far as I know the Xe Graphics card is good for light gaming. NR2003 may have a issue with the Iris. Maybe others are using an Iris Card and can share some ideas.

It only has the Intel Iris Xe card, and it does show in the rend_dxg file. I never had this problem with my old laptop so I believe it has something to do with the graphics card. I don't wanna buy a new laptop if I have to but it's looking likely that I might.

Maybe silly question, but is your laptop plugged in while running the game?
That was a question someone in my Discord DMs asked and yes, I always use it plugged in, but no matter if or if not it still lags.

I don't wanna sound rude but, why use a laptop to run the game? What do you use to steer or shift? You can get so much more out of a desk top computer.

I was considering buying a desktop but I don't really wanna spend like 500 dollars on a computer, so that's why I chose a laptop. What I could do is return this to Best Buy and use the money and some more to get a more powerful computer.

The question I have though is that I want to know if or how I can fix OpenGL not crashing because when I run it on that graphics, it runs at like 50fps. The sound still plays and all but the screen just freezes.

In my opinion a Gaming Laptop works just fine for speed and graphics. I'm getting 145fps.

I’m no computer guy, but I believe Open GL is better if you aren’t running Windows for an operating system.

Ok so if OpenGL doesn’t work that means I need to fix direct X being laggy.
Worth a shot.

Below is what I do (copied from a previous post). It gave me an FPS boost and helped with anti aliasing issues.

1, Download DxWrapper.zip from https://github.com/elishacloud/dxwrapper/releases
2. Place the files dxwrapper.dll, dxwrapper (configuration file like a .ini,) and d3d8.dll inside Nr2003 main directory.
3. Open up the dxwrapper configuration file and under [Compatibility] change D3d8to9 from =0 to =1
4. Under [d3d9] change AnistropicFiltering from =0 to =1 and AntiAliasing from =0 to =1.
5. Right click your NR.2003.exe, under the compatibility check disable fullscreen optimizations.

This has been a huge game changer for me. I've gotten a 35 fps + boost without giving up any quality. I am sure there is more that we can toy with in the dxwrapper configuration file. Hopefully it can help someone else. I am actually super pumped about it!

Well I tried it and it crashed when I hit continue to try and do a race, so no luck there. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but it didn't work.

You might ha be to try downloading the old direct X runtime off of Microsoft’s website. It should be an installer.
