I was looking at the github at the direct X 8 to 9 dll and a new version number showed up a few days ago but it had no files yet. Today the new dll got published:

https://github.com/crosire/d3d8to9/releases/tag/v1.10.0

For those living under a rock this dll file goes into your NR2003 root directory. It will unlock the game from running on DX8 to DX9 giving you increased stability and framerate. Essentially it makes the game run like a slightly more modern game with the extra features Direct X 9 has to offer.

I have tried the new dll version a bit and not see any negatives, I could not find any patch notes on what fixes were made with the new dll but the older version was 112 kb and this one is 119 kb large so it does have some extra stuff in it. Unfortunately the black car shader issue when you have shadows on from structures to the cars still occurs. There is still hope it may be resolved one day as they seem to update the dll every 6 to 9 months.

They have an issues tab and someone could report the issue to them if they want: https://github.com/crosire/d3d8to9/issues I don't have a github account but I may make one just to show the issue and see if its something they can resolve one day.

Direct X 8 to 9 dll has been updated 2 more times since my last post. Didn't realize until randomly checking today. The latest version was updated just 3 days ago to version 1.11.0

I've not got a chance to try the new version yet but if the shadow issue still persists I will try and report the bug on their github. Since they seem to be updating is pretty frequently might as well see if its something they could fix.

A new version of d3d8to9 dll just released today!

Its been 2 years since there was an update:

I did a quick test and didn't notice any issues running NR2003, I couldn't find any release notes of what has changed but doesn't hurt to have latest version. The shadows from structures toggled still unfortunately renders some cars dark so no fix for that, though a year+ ago I submitted that as an issue and its still in the open issues section.

Thanks Mystical for this info. Looks like it worked fine on my system.

Yep I've done several races with it across a few tracks the last 2 days and not noticed any adverse side affects (just raced with my ICR mod).

I can confirm the shadows from structures toggled on will still make the cars black (minor drawback for getting like 300% fps gain on tracks lol). It doesn't seem as bad as previous dll versions but still there so I just have it toggled off in the graphics settings still. I still recommended if anyone uses the dll to just use most recent versions, usually has at least more optimizations between dx 8 to 9 so no harm in dropping in latest version when possible.

Some good news on Dx9. Someone made a Dx9 version that finally fixed the shadows on cars from other cars and structure to work. You can read the details in this reddit thread here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nr2003/comments/154c3rp View: https://www.reddit.com/r/Nr2003/comments/154c3rp/shadows_working_on_car_with_dx9/

It can be used with Reshade Vulcan (I don't use reshade so you'll have to figure out that config on your own)

For non reshade users like me here is the medaifire link they shared with the new dx9.dll: https://www.mediafire.com/file/vgqecfycqgqztes/fixed+d3d9+with+shadows.zip/file

Remove from your NR directory any of the other dx dll's and just copy over the d3d9.dll let NR2003 run the graphics again and tweak your settings. Now you can turn shadows from other cars and structures on and see the cars react to going under shadows again.

NOTE: If you use my ICR or GoKart mods shadows from other cars/structures will not work yet. I found a bug I never knew about that I will be creating a patch for to update my mods you can download in the near future so you can enjoy shadows working on them as well. I will also explain what the cause was and why I didn't know about it when developing the mods, one of those things you don't know unless were trained on really lol.

From what I can tell, the same bug may exist for the next gen mod as well. Haven't been able to display any shadows on those cars, while I have with others with this dx9 fix

Yep I forwarded the code fix to the FCRD team, its up to them to decide if they want to patch the mod or not though as they have the source files to recompile it.

So do you put both d3d8.dll and d3d9.dll files in your NR2003 directory or only one of them? If so, which one? I'm not currently using Reshade. I was but after I upgraded from one to three monitors, NR2003 runs around 7-14 fps using Reshade. Thanks for any help.

what mod did you try it on? d3d9.dll works to get shadows from structures on the cars (you also need to turn the options on in the game).

I just have the d3d9.dll added

It works but I don't know after some laps, changing setting and mod the shadow don't show again. Maybe because I use integrated graphics. I will test out in another PC.

default mods, aero88, irocZ28.
i already use shadows on cars, they work fine for me and i have enough fps.

so i guess i should say that if the d3d9.dll does work ~ there is no fps increase, 0.

edit:
i dont think you guys are going to get on-car-shadows for free, its gonna cost at least 20fps.
or in other words ~ the d3d8 fps increase wasnt becouse of d3d8, it was from disabling on-car-shadows.
