damage in qualification session

Can somebody explain me this?

I select none damge for quick race, but on the qualification session all physical damage are on
But during race physical damage are off.

I didn't check it yet but it may be that the developers wanted all qualifying done on merit. It would be real easy to get a pole every time with a low opponent strength. Just my opinion not a factoid.
