Here is my work from the last week. Unsponsored NEMCO Motorsports cars

2004 Jeff Fuller Unsponsored - Nashville II
88 Jeff Fuller Unsponsored.png
Jeff Fuller in 2004 mainly did R&D duty for Joe Nemechek, starting 30 races and never finishing a single one. He ran various paint schemes over the year as he start and parked his way from one race to the next. This car is based off Nashville 2, though he ran it in a few events. Due to a lack of reference photos, a fair bit of the associates are guessed, bodged together, or cropped from other cars, and the rear is basically my own interpretation as I can't find a good shot of it, even looking through qualifying/race broadcasts.

2004 Joe Nemechek Unsponsored - California I
7 Joe Nemechek Unsponsored.png
Joe Nemechek in 2004 ran 2 races outside of the #87, one of which was a Start & Park deal in a third car at Cali, while David Reutimann piloted the teams main funded car. He parked after 3 laps of the 150 lap event, finishing dead last.

2005 Jeff Fuller Unsponsored - Daytona I
7 Jeff Fuller Unsponsored.png
Jeff Fuller would return to his role for the opening of the 2005 season, running the first 2 races before passing the torch to Chris Cook for the race in Mexico. The week after, NEMCO would sell off the #7's owner points to GIC-Mixon Motorsports, with fuller being out of a ride before rejoining the #7 crew under the new ownership later in the year.

I'm back with 2 Busch cars, one fully complete, and one 98% of the way there.

2005 Reed Sorenson Discount Tire - Primary
41 Reed Sorenson Discount Tire.png
Reed Sorenson had a solid rookie campaign for Chip Ganassi in the Busch Series, winning 2 races, along with 12 top 5's, 19 top 10's, and a 4th place points finish. The major blemish is a DNQ at Atlanta, where he replaced Sterling Marlin in the affiliate FitzBradshaw Racing team's 40 entry.

2005 Michel Jourdain Jr. Unsponsored - Various
10 Michel Jourdain Jr Unsponsored.png
Mexican ChampCar driver Michel Jourdain Jr. was tabbed to drive the #10 for ppc Racing after the team took a hiatus in 2004. The team had little in the way of major funding, and Jourdain struggled to get to grips with the heavy stock cars, only posting a single top 5. This lack of performance combined with sponsorship woes saw him dropped mid season, only returning for 3 further races in 2005 and 3 in 2006, replaced by Brent Sherman who brought Hickory Farms and Serta Mattresses sponsorship to the team.

The #10 car is missing the Airplus logo on the B-Pillar, as I, for the life of me can't find the right logo. Many of the associates on there are made up as they are so small you wouldn't be able to tell the real from the fake and hunting down the actual logos would have been a lot of work for something you'd barely see.

Nice to see you back in the saddle again Ian!
Thanks Bill! I've just been cranking these out when I can between work and life.

Here are some Mexico McMurray cars.

2005 Jamie McMurray Texaco Havoline - Mexico Practice
42 Jamie McMurray Texaco Havoline.png
In 2005, Jamie McMurray was entered in the first ever Mexico 200 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. His car was basically the same as his cup car, but with a yellow stripe along the bottom instead of red. Atleast until.........

2005 Jamie McMurray Texaco Havoline - Mexico Race
42 Jamie McMurray Texaco Havoline Backup.png
Lil' Jamie baby junked it into the barrier during practice, forcing them to roll out a backup. This particular backup was Reed Sorenson's car for Phoenix, onto which Texaco decals were hastily placed on top of the car along with a 42. McMurray qualified 14th in the 43 car field, and would finish 33rd at the end, preserving the car for the next weeks event.

Back with some more cup cars, including probably the current pride and joy of the set.

2005 Tony Stewart Home Depot - Primary
20 Tony Stewart Home Depot.png
Well, if you win the title, your year can't really get much better can it? 5 wins, 17 top 5's, 25 top 10's, 3 poles and a solitary DNF. This would be Smoke's second title, and last for JGR. The number on the rear quarter panel changed every week, usually denoting a particular store (I think it was a promotion for regional stores that preformed well?) No, I'm not making every minor variation to run, I may be a completionist, but I'm not THAT crazy....... Yet. I do see I need to touch up the MBNA logos on the contigs.

2005 Jeff Gordon Dupont - Daytona
24 Jeff Gordon Dupont.png
2005 started off like any normal year for Jeff, winning the Daytona 500 and running as high as 2nd in points thereafter in the first third of the campaign. But then abnormally for Jeff during this time span, the wheels fell off the Dupont wagon, missing the chase, but ending the year off somewhat strong to earn best of the rest.

The #24 car took me about 2 days, though I took a sizable break between. I actually started it before the batch of Busch cars, but decided to do some slightly easier cars before I felt ready to tackle this prioject head on. Luckily I found good side and aerial victory lane images to trace for most of the flames, with the hood and quarter flames being the only ones eyeballed by hand. I'm not happy with the fade on the hood flames, but the various images were inconsistant with their portrayal and hard to spot, so I did what I could and ultimately I'm pretty ecstatic with everything else.

New cars alert!

2004 Todd Szegedy Hills Brothers Coffee/Jewel Supermarkets - Chicagoland
7 Todd Szegedy Hills Bros Jewell.png
To the modified crowd, Todd Szegedy is a well known commodity. On the national level, not so much, only making 3 starts with NEMCO in 2004, to respectable results. But he is best known as the guy who was on track when the giant inflatable orange rolled down the front straight. Because of this, NASCAR allowed him to rerun his attempt, and he timed in a solid 12th, but would sadly crash out on lap 60 finishing 39th, his worst of the year, the other results being a respectable 21st and a 15th. Not bad for a modified guy, eh?

2005 Greg Sacks Unsponsored - Kansas DNQ
13 Greg Sacks Blank Silver.png
While most people know of the red Intrepid when it comes to those who know about Sacks 2005 campaign, this car has to my knowledge never been done before. Judging by the fact it is a silver Charger I'd have a guess it likely was one of Marlin's cars that was passed on. Either way Sacks failed to make the grade. I will eventually redo the metallic as the Chargers use an older layer that isn't quite up to scratch.

2005 Geoffery Bodine Unsponsored - Bud Shootout
93 Geoffery Bodine Blank Black.png
In 2005 BGN underdogs GIC-Mixon Motorsports hired Geoffery Bodine to attempt speedweeks. Up to this point they had attempted a few Cupraces in 2002 and 2004 and failed to make any of them, and Bodine woul qualify them for the Budweiser Shootout. Unfortunately they lost the draft immediately and fell out after a handful of laps. With Bodine failing to make the 500 and the cup program being canned as the team focused on trying to find funding for their Busch team, this would be the only time the Cup team would ever be on track in a race scenario.

2005 Shane Hall Security Link, Inc. - Atlanta Withdrawal fictional concept.
96 Shane Hall Service Link.png
What do you do when you have a car that has A. NO photos, B. only been on the entry list for ONE race, and C. was a withdrawal bringing the whole thing into question whether this was a thing or NOT!?!? You find something close enough, and fudge the hell out it to turn it into that seems somewhat believable.

And you may be asking, this looks like a copy paste of the #96 ORTEC BGN car from 2004? Well, the driver for the latter half of the season for ORTEC Racing was Shane Hall. ORTEC Racing ran the #96. ORTEC had Security Link, Inc. as a sponsor for a race. The things that don't add up are the fact that the listed owner is a totally different person(but that has happened before where Racing Reference lists a different owner for the same team) and that ORTEC attempted no Busch Races in 2005. But until proof shows me otherwise, I'm sticking with what I've got. Heck I'm 90% certain the SLI logo is wholly inaccurate because all I had was a bad angle photo of the #96 after it bit the dust in a lap 5 pileup.

Here are yesterday's and today's cars.

2005 Rusty Wallace Kodak/Miller Lite - Texas 1
2 Rusty Wallace Kodak.png
At Texas Rusty Wallace ran with Kodak colors on what was for the one race, "the yellow deuce". The race was fairly solid, if uneventful with Rusty starting 6th and finishing 10th.

2005 Mike Skinner Unsponsored - Daytona 500 practice.
23 Mike Skinner Blank Daytona.png
The second Bill Davis Racing Dodge continued on in 2005 despite a lack of a primary sponsor, though the schedule was greatly reduced even from the teams already part time 2004 campaign. Mike Skinner rolled up to Daytona in this sponsorless #23 which ran the opening practice sessions.

2005 Mike Skinner Argent Mortgage- Daytona 500
23 Mike Skinner Argent.png
Before the Duels however Skinner got sponsorship from Sub-Prime loan lender Argent Mortgage, who sponsored Danica Patrick's IRL team around the same time. He had a strong run in his 125 qualifyer starting 8th and finishing 3rd, highest amongst the go-or-go-homers and would spend much of the 500 running at the pointed end of the field before crashing out on lap 187 and finishing 30th.

The Argent car, similar to Jeff Gordon's Dupont, used image references modified so that I could trace them, as will likely be the main tactic for these more challenging bases.

Taking a break from NNC07 to do some more template work and fictional concepts.

Yesterday I cooked up an interpretation of what a 1999/2000 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme might have looked like. Today I added some paint to it.

#88 Mark Harrison GM Goodwrench Oldsmobile - Fictional
88 Goodwrench Olds.png

Basically took the classic Goodwrench scheme, flipped it, and loaded it up with associates par for the era. I'd say it looks pretty good on the Olds.

Back to 2005, with a real replica and another semi-fantasy of a team that never came to be.

2005 Bobby Hamilton Jr. Tide - Primary
32 Bobby Hamilton Jr Tide.png
2005 saw Bobby Hamilton Jr. run his first and only "full season" in cup. I put quotation marks on that statement as Ron Fellows took over at the road courses due to the teams dire owners points situation. The team would struggle mightily, mired by several crashes, mechanical failures, and a handful of DNQ's to boot, recording the #32's second year without a top 10 finish, 2 years after their incredible win at Darlington. If you look at the entry lists for the races Bobby Jr. failed to qualify, you can see he DID start both Dega and Atlanta in the Tide #32, but that is because he bought out the Front Row Motorsports Entries in both races, the #34 at Talladega and the #92 at Atlanta respectively. Interestingly enough the #34 team was registered as a ford, and did run the race with Aarons sponsorship with the #00, likely a partnership with MWR, after FRM withdrew thier own #92.

2005 Carl Long Unsponsored - Fictional
94 Carl Long Victory Motorsports.png
Victory Motorsports was an endeavour dreamed up by former Pro-Bowler Terence Mathis. With Bett Farve, Dan Marino, Roger Staubach, Troy Aikman, Randy Moss and Tim Brown dabbling in team ownership, this seems par for the course. But Mathis had the dream of using the team to help develop minority talent, hiring African American Morty Buckles to a development deal in ARCA, while planning for Carl Long to run the #94 to help their cup team off the ground, and announcing a partnership with Morgan-McClure Motorsports, looking to run races in either late 2005 or 2006. But like many teams looking to break in to the top level of the sport, sponsorship never materialized and they never turned a single lap.

Having a total blank slate allowed me to get a bit creative with this entry, which is likely to never see the track in a proper race, but a fun thought experiment nonetheless.

Today have 3 cars, 2 for one team, and and alternate for an existing team.

2005 Mike Skinner Auto Maniac - Various
23 Mike Skinner Auto Maniac.png
In 2005, Mike Skinner and Bill Davis Racing picked up sponsorship for History Channel's then new AutoManiac show. The deal initially was for the Coke 600 and the first Michigan race, but Dover, and the Brickyard were later added to the list. The team didn't do the best, Crashing at Charlotte, DNQ'ing at Dover, then a 34th at Michigan and 29th at Indy, the only race the car finished on the lead lap.

2005 Bobby Hamilton Bailey's - Indianapolis
04 Bobby Hamilton Bailey's.png
Bobby Hamilton brought his truck team up to cup for a handful of races with owner/driver Bobby Hamilton Sr. at the wheel. The main pourpose of the car was R&D work to help his son and the struggling PPI Motorsports crew. Despite this, it was in fact an in house entry prepped by BHR themselves, who bought an old PPI car, and hung Dodge sheetmetal on top of it. In his first start since the end of 2002, Hamilton would roll off 35th, and finish on the lead lap in 27th.

2005 Bobby Hamilton - Unsponsored - Atlanta
04 Bobby Hamilton Blank Blue.png
The other race for BHR would be the second Atlanta race, where the team would run sans-sponsorship. A respectable 26th starting spot was converted into a 30th place finish, 6 laps off the pace.

Next up is a pair of Lil' Jamie babies and a shot in the dark into a DNQ.

2005 Jamie McMurray Texaco/Havoline - Primary
42 Jamie McMurray Texaco Havoline.png
On paper, Jamie McMurray's 2005 year was much worse than his 2004 campaign. But he only finished one spot worse in the points, and was well in contention for a Chase spot for most of the season. McMurray was Chip's flagship driver for the 2005 season, with Mears having been slow to improve and Marlin falling off the face of the earth. The year had a contract dispute when McMurray signed a deal with Roush Racing for 2006, while Ganassi had planned to take of the option in Jamie's contract to extend for another year. They ended up settling and McMurray was allowed to leave at seasons end.

2005 Jamie McMurray Texaco/Techron - Phoenix II
42 Jamie McMurray Texaco Techron.png
This is a little known alternate scheme that ran the second Phoenix race. McMurray started 28th, slowly picking his way through the pack. On lap 209 he would get tangled with Scott Riggs, but would manage to keep the car going with minimal damage, and come home 18th.

2005 Dan Pardus ARC Dehooker/JoinRFA.org - Daytona II Semi-Fictional
73 Dan Pardus ARC Dehooker.png
This car has no photos of, not even on broadcast, and conflicting sources make me question if it even attempted to qualify at all!?!? Dan Pardus was entered into the 2005 Pepsi 400 in what was to be the Raabe #73's first attempt since Las Vegas, but they either withdrew/ or DNQ'd, depending on source. The broadcast lists them as a DNQ, RacingReference as a withdrawl, and Jayski was suprisingly not much help, though I think they lumped the #73 in the DNQ column as well. Maybe the crashed during practice then withdrew? I'm stumped. So here is McClure's car with Pardus' name, what I'd guess their 400 car looked like.

Also I'm not sure whether to run Rookie Stripes or not. Technically he is still ROTY enligible, and in Daytona in 2000 he had the stripes, BUT NASCAR has also said that the stripes are to be run by drivers who haven't run at a particular track, which Pardus has(1998 Pepsi 400)

Nice work!
Thanks! While not nearly as bad as the 90's and before, sometimes finding images of one race schemes and/or smaller teams/DNQ's can be a pain, and sometimes you just have to take something you know/can find that is close, and fudge it 'till it works.

So while on a much needed mental health break, I cooked up several new cars to show you all.

2005 Kevin Harvick GM Goodwrench - Primary
29 Kevin Harvick Goodwrench.png
2005 was an average year for the Goodwrench crew, Posting a win and 2 poles, but 2 less top 5's and 4 less top 10's, ultimately finishing in the same spot in the points as the season prior. It wasn't due to a lack of consistency as the team only suffered 1 DNF, a crash at the Bristol night race, while Harvick had the most lead lap finishes since his rookie season.

2005 David Stremme U.S. NAVY - Various
39 David Stremme NAVY.png
In preparation for a ROTY run in 2006, Stremme ran a handful of races in Ganassi's 4th entry. In typical David Stremme fashion, he only finished one of his 4 starts in '05, that being his first at Chicagoland.

2005 Sterling Marlin Coors Light - Primary
40 Sterling Marlin Coors Light.png
2005 would see the performance of the Silver Bullet continue to slip, going from 21st in 2004, to a miserable 30th in 2005, including sitting out Watkins Glen. The Nashville, TN native would not resign with Ganassi and looked elsewhere for a seat in 2006.

2005 Carl Edwards Stonebridge Life - Pocono
99 Carl Edwards Stonebridge.png
This paint scheme would be run by "Cousin" Carl at the first Pocono race, in which he would take the victory from a 29th place starting spot, one of 4 victories in his first full time season after replacing Jeff Burton in late 2004.
