The last 2 evenings or so I cooked up a pair of cars, including my first Busch car.

2005 Jeff Green Cheerios Dodge - Primary
43 Jeff Green Cheerios.png
2005 was very similar to 2004 for Jeff Green, who joined the team late 2003 after his release from RCR and DEI. No top tens, and average finish of 24.7, and 29th in the standings. The most notable part of 2005 was his beef with Micheal Waltrip, which carried on into 2006.

The lining around the taillights is on the list of things to tweak, everything else seems OK.

2004 Eric McClure Unsponsored Chevy - Charlotte 2
04 Eric McClure Unsponsored.png

In 2004, Eric McClure attempted 7 Busch Races, 5 of which came in his family's own #04 Chevrolet. This partictular car is from Charlotte, where McClure failed to qualify.

Today's haul is all about Newman.

2005 Ryan Newman Alltel - Early Season Primary
12 Ryan Newman Alltel Old.png
2005 was a good year for the Rocket Man, who scored 8 poles, 16 top 10's, 8 top 5's and a win coming at the second New Hampshire event. Newman was always quick in qualifying during his Penske days, but didn't find as much success on Sunday as he did the day prior. But he was almost always good for a win or two here and there.

2005 Ryan Newman Mobil 1 Speedpass - Various Races
12 Ryan Newman Mobil 1.png
The Mobil 1 car was only seen in a select few races, with Newman claiming his New Hampshire victory behind the wheel of this scheme.

2005 Ryan Newman Alltel - Late Season Primary
12 Ryan Newman Alltel New.png
Alltel debuted new branding at the 2005 Coke 600, which carried onwards until they left the sport after 2008.

So on the NNC07 2005 carset front things have been quiet, as I've been ramping up again one of my other "time waster" projects. The EA Sports fantasy sponsor/number collection.

EA Logos Set 4.png
As you can see, I've made quite a few logos, and this is only the start

EA Numbers Set 4.png
The number side of things is equally as large, and I still got well over about 75% to go! Right now the most different styles per number is held by 131 and 136, both with 4 number styles each.

Here are a few new(ish) cars and my first Ford Taurus.

2005 Michael Waltrip NAPA Auto Parts
15 Michael Waltrip NAPA Auto Parts.png
The other side of the 2005 DEI team swap, Ol' MIkey was always a bit of a NASCAR oddity. A driver who won the Allstar race coming from the Open, and 2 Daytona 500's, a career total of 4 cup wins, but never higher than 12th in points, which came during the 90's. With Mikey spending most of 2003 in the top 10 in points, swapping the #8 and #15 teams seemed like a move that could get MW back up in the standings right? Well, he had some decent runs with this arrangement, but with his usual lot of crashes, mechanical issues, and just plain bad luck, he finished 25th in the final tally, leaving to start his own team in 2006.

2005 Hermie Sadler Peak Fitness Racing - Various Races
66 Hermie Sadler Peak Fitness.png
In the 2004-2005 off season Hermie Sadler sold his team to Peak Fitness owner Jeff Stec, who rebranded the team and provided primary funding. The team made a respectable 8 of the first 13 races, but after Dover, Hermie Sadler left to other opportunities, leaving the seat open to various drivers throughout the year.

2005 Randy Lajoie Blank White - Fictional
98 Randy Lajoie Blank White.png
This fictional is based on the 2005 Daytona Preaseason Tests, where Mach 1 Motorsports used the #98, with the switch to the #34 coming later down the line. Basically the #34 with a different number.

Back again with some Dodges, including my second (semi)fictional

2005 Rusty Wallace Miller Lite - Primary
2 Rusty Wallace Miller Lite.png
In his final season of racing, Rusty Wallace pulled together his best season since 2002, and while not winning a race like the year prior, he improved his points position from 16th to 8th and overall blew his results from the year prior clean out of the water. Not a bad way to send off a career eh?

2005 Kasey Kahne Pit Cap - Fictional
9 Kasey Kahne Dodge Pit Cap.png
This is a 2005 interpretation of Kahne's original pit cap car from the 2004 spring Darlington race. Just to add a bit of variety with Kasey's paint scheme options.

And yes, there is an accurate Penske/Evernham style spoiler on the #2, that will eventually be retrofitted to the Evernham cars at a later date.

This morning's concoctions are a pair of Busch cars from Y2K5, including an oddball team that has more to it than meets the eye.

2005 Ryan Newman Alltel - Various Races
39 Ryan Newman Alltel.png
In terms of Buschwacking, Ryan Newman's stats can be considered either impressive or disgusting. 6 Wins in 9 starts, and only one finish outside the top 5 (a 16th at Texas) along with winning 5 straight races he entered. He primarily ran the big tracks, all but one of them in the latter half of the schedule.

2005 Brandon Miller Unsponsored - Phoenix
61 Brandon Miller Unsponsored.png
Brandon Miller spent most of 2005 sharing the #21 with Kevin Harvick, but at Phoenix, was entered in an unspnsored affiliate car instead. This car was owned by former Winston West racer Gary Collins, one of the men who helped give birth to the popular NASCAR Truck series division we know and love today. Sadly Miller crashed out on lap 38, finishing 39th after a 38th place starting spot.

And I'm back with a 3 in one deal! 2 conversions/updates of earlier work and one brand new car.

2005 Martin Truex Jr. Bass Pro Shops - Daytona 500
1 Martin Truex Jr Bass Pro Red.png
In 2005 Martin Truex Jr. ran 7 races in preparation for a 2006 Rookie run, mainly at Plate Tracks and 1.5 Milers. These first few races were pretty rough for the Mayetta, New Jersey native, with only one top 10 finish and 5 DNFs, 3 of which came due to crashes. This red paint scheme ran at Daytona, where the future cup champion would roll of an impressive tenth. The day would end on lap 178 with a motor gone south, leading to a 34th place end to his first Daytona 500 start.

2005 Martin Truex Jr. Bass Pro Shops - Texas II
1 Martin Truex Jr Bass Pro Black.png
At Texas Truex ran a black version of his Daytona entry, starting 27th and finishing a respectable 15th, his second best finish on the year and one of the two races in which he took the checkered flag under his own power.

2005 Scott Riggs Valvoline - Primary
10 Scott Riggs Valvoline.png
2005 for Scott Riggs was a season of high and lows. One one hand he doubled both his top 5 and top 10 counts, scored a pole at Martinsville, and improved his Average Start. Great right? you might say. But his average finish dropped by two whole positions and he dropped 5 positions in the points, from 29th in '04 to 34th in '05, despite a DNQ At Atlanta the year prior. The year is most remembered for it Riggs massive flip at Talladega late in the year, not necessarily what you want to be your standout moment.

These are great
Thanks! It has been a fun project so far. Honestly the painting is the most fun part of NR2003 to me. Being able to meticulously recreate the cars as they ran, and then put them in the game to race against, the best feeling in the world

It very much is theraputic and with my ADHD, helps direct my focus and energy towards something other than bouncing off the walls like a ping-pong ball.

'Tis mornin' is a backmarker mornin'. Some quick, easy cars to crank out to puff up the grid.

2005 Tony Raines Unsponsored - Indianapolis
92 Tony Raines Blank Red.png
Raines ran for various teams in 2005, one of which being Front Row Motorsports. He made his first attempt at Richmond in the spring, which he started 31st and finished 35th, and then DNQ'd for the Coke 600. He would be brought back for Indianapolis, but the blank red #92 failed to make the grade yet again.

2005 Stanton Barrett Unsponsored - Dover 2
95 Stanton Barrett Blank Red.png

After his release from FRM, NASCAR's Hollywood Stuntman would start up his own team, running blank red Chevys not unlike the cars he started the season in. The team would make it's debut at Bristol, then DNQ Richmond and Loudon before qualifying for the second time at Dover. The second Charlotte race was a DNQ but Barrett would successfully make the field in his final 2 starts of the year at Martinsville and Phoenix.

2005 Jeff Fuller Unsponsored - Martinsville 1
61 Jeff Fuller Blank Black.png
While 2005's mix of backmarkers wasn't as eclectic as the year before, there definately were still a few oddballs amongst the entry lists. One of these was the Buddy Sisco #61. Whether this is the same Buddy Sisco as the crew chief from around the same period, related to former NASCAR driver David Sisco, or what is unbeknownst to me, but what is known is that they never started any of the 4 races they attempted.

2005 Stan Boyd Amber Alert Michigan - California
79 Stan Boyd Amber Alert.png
Finally a sponsored ride(somewhat.) Stan Boyd had run several Truck series races up to this point, and in late 2004 joined John Conely's organisation. In 2005 he would attempt California and Las Vegas early in the year, while other drivers would take over the ride as the year went on. This car is by far the least accurate I have done, as the small text under the Amber Alert Michigan logo was mainly fudged gobbledygook, while the B-Pillars are even more cobbled together using Jjbberish and shapes. Most of the side logos came straight from photos of the car, and as such are in sub-par quality, but sometimes sacrifices need to be made. Thank goodness I paint in 1024x1024 instead of 2048x2048, or else these flaws would be even more obvious x'D

The main thing I can see that is wrong is the Nilla Wafers logo, but I decided to take some artistic liscence for consistency and my OCD, as the Nutter Butter logo on the other side has the background, so one with/one without, just drives me nuts. Maybe the outline on the Tracker Boats logo will be done, but I'm not going 100%, or else I'd be making driver suits. If I get within 90% I'm happy.

Logos I can understand, but the base is a deep metallic red.

To answer your question about the 61, it is Buddy Sisco the crew chief, the same one that has worked at MMS until recently.
I had a feeling, but it seemed weird he was both crew chief and team owner in the same series at the same time, but two different teams. I guess the cars he was running might have been old Arnold Motorsports Dodges, since he was the teams crew chief at the time.

Try a darker red, then add some 'noise' to another layer of the same colour above it at 20-30% opacity.
Thanks, will try that and see if I can get things looking right.

Here are 3 new cars and one updated car.

2005 Martin Truex Jr Bass Pro - Daytona (Fixed)
1 Martin Truex Jr Bass Pro Red.png
Darkened the red significantly, added metallic flake, redid the metallic shine entirely, and added a stroke to the Tracker Boats logos. Instead of setting the metallic shine layer as overlay, I set it as vivid light, which gave me the shiny semi-chome color look I was going for. @Lastlap what do you think?

2005 Ricky Rudd Motorcraft - Primary
21 Ricky Rudd Motorcraft.png
Ricky Rudd's 2005 season was his best during his 3 year tenure with the Wood Brothers, scoring the most top 10's, best average start and average finish, and highest points finish (21st) for the team. The Rooster showed plenty of flashes of speed during his time with the Woods, but the cars simply were not there, despite several strong runs and near misses over the 3 year period, including a crushing runner up to eventual 2005 Champ Tony Stewart at Sonoma. After '05 he would take a hiatus from racing, only to return for one more season in 2007 before calling it quits for good.

2005 Scott WImmer Caterpillar - Primary
22 Scott Wimmer Caterpillar.png
Wimmer was a huge case of wasted potential, saddled with coming up a rookie with a Bill Davis Racing team on the downslope after a legal battle with Dodge over Davis' involvement with Toyota. 2005 was a struggle with no top 5's or top 10's to speak of, and a disappointing 32nd place points finish. Similar to Riggs, his most noteworthy moment of the season was a flip, Wimmer's occurring in the Daytona 500.

2005 Kurt Busch Irwin Tools - Various
97 Kurt Busch Irwin Tools.png
Talk about Championship hangover am I right? On paper the elder Busch brothers stats don't seem to bad. A step below 2004 to be sure but not awful by any means. But it was off the track where Kurt Busch stumbled into issues, being suspended for the last 2 races of the season for arguing with a police officer after driving recklessly which led into an investigation into a potential DUI charge. Kurt would be dropped by Roush at years end, going to Penske Racing, his attitude finally coming around in the mid-late 2010's.
