Just wondering if anyone happens to be using Adobe Substance much like you would 3DCoat?
And if so, is there a way to import the PSD layered templates we use into the scene and maintain those layers?
So far I haven't been successful in that endeavor. I can get it in as a single texture and can layer on top of that but that doesn't work well for trying to physically paint the car in Substance.

I don't think you can import PSD layers as editable. You'd need to import each layer from a PSD file as a separate rasterized png image on new blank layers in substance as albedo color layer.

I usually only import a layer from a paint scheme I am working on in 3D Cost if I need do to some complex painting on it in 3d space or need it for a reference to complete another section of a base.

Would it be safe to say that as long as I keep the png size matching the template size, it should still import and map into the correct position more or less automatically?
