Last I had heard, they were going Cup racing with Justin Haley in one car, AJ part time in another, and the other full time driver was TBD. Which leads into another point....

As many keep saying, 2022 is probably THE year for teams to try and expand/break into Cup, as the technological playing field will likely be more level than it has been... well, ever. It's going to be pretty ruthless in terms of team success and failure, and I think that a team we see now in 2021 may not exist come 2023/2024, losing to one of these newer teams. It's really kind of a crapshoot. Only teams I think are "safe" are HMS, JGR, Penske, and SHR.
That was Kaulig as far as I'm aware, although not being from the US could mean I'm quite wrong

Nobody has mentioned Ryan Newman? I think I heard he may be offered some part time rides with Roush!! @Highbank started this discussion in the shout box.

So no answer on Mattie D or a possible partime gig for the Rocket Man.... and still no plans for Kurt B. or Chastang either. So, Who's next for the Silly Season discussion? or should I say the chopping block.

No.
29 - Brad Keslowski (full time)
17 - Chris Buescher (full time)
6 - Ryan Newman (part time)

Is that the most sensible set of forseeable outcomes?

The only possible direction that I see for Newman to go is downwards to a less good team, or out.
Maybe BK would keep Newman on as spotter?

Newman is older than I am; he will be 44 by the end of next year.

I thought it was said that Brad would use the 6? Unless they change plans like when they wanted to put Todd Kluever in the 6 but he ended up flopping in Cup.

I haven't heard of any car number for Brad... But did someone say the 16 was coming back to Roush?

The only years Roush didn't use the 6 full-time were 2012-2014. Even then, they continued using it in Xfinity. Brad in the 6 would be a great way to continue the Roush legacy. Since Martin we haven't exactly had a future Hall of Famer in the car (not counting Kenseth running part time in 2018) with the possible exception of Newman.

Speaking of Newman, I agree. Either he goes part time, goes to a lesser ride, or retires.

No.
29 was the number that Bob Keslowski used and one of the numbers that Brad Keslowski Racing used.
I wonder what happened to either of those Austin Cindric or Chase Briscoe chaps. Did they amount to anything?

At least the NASCAR team isn't a blatant field filler though. The fact they bought Ganassi's Cup team should say a lot.

And no charters either. They scared off several small teams that could've grown. Many teams have shut down since its introduction. Unfortunately, even with the end of the current agreement I don't see Jim France getting rid of it.

There are good arguments for and against the charter system. I am one who disagrees with the charter system. It has definitely hurt the car count for the Cup Series. In addition, it creates a false value for a race team that has a charter, i.e. Rick Ware Racing.
