There are also rumors that 1 or two cars may find their charters revoked by Nascar come season's end.

Teams that aren't even teams really anymore I'd bet, teams in name only

If it has Quin Houff, you know it's out there to collect the prize money and nothing else. It's practically one of those 2000s start-and-park teams.

No.

I hope not.

Because that basically undercuts the value of a charter and defrauds people who've invested in them as a saleable asset.

That's like Uber coming into a city, and basically destroying the value of taxi plates.

No.
I think that Matty D... goes to the #21 for Wood Bros.
I think that Kurt drives a #97 car for 23XI as their second driver.

A couple of thoughts here. 1: Good for Cindric (I guess) Not surprised to see this move in the least. Although I don't agree with it. 2: H. Burton is not ready for full time cup. I really don't think he should be in the 21. I think he needs another year in Xfinity at least. BUT I am of the old school idea tht drivers need to spend a number of years honing their skills in Xfinity before going Cup. Additionally, I really feel like Penske did Matty D dirty here. As Matt said recently, there had been zero talks between him and either organization. No one had sat down with him and discussed what the plans could or would be. He was left in the dark. That's wrong. For a driver who came in and got in the playoffs and is now close to getting in this year. Would likely be in if it wasn't for so many different winners. And you don't extend a common courtesy to discuss future plans with your driver? Screw Penske and to a lesser extent the Woods.
This roller coaster has been just that. And he drew the short end of the stick apparently.

Moving on:
@Rollo75 - When the system was put in place one of the "checks" that was instituted was Nascar's discretion to potentially revoke a team's charter. And I can think of a couple of teams that have done nothing competitive with their charter. One in particular has went backwards on their competitiveness the last couple of years and is one of the teams that has been considered. I'm not saying who and I am not saying anyone will lose their charter that way but the rules are there. If a charter finishes in the bottom 3 in points for 3 consecutive years (I am not sure on the exact wording) that charter is automatically revoked and IF NASCAR deems it necessary they can revoke any charter.

Second of all, the Charter system is just a big joke that has killed off more teams than any other decision in the sports history. It created an environment of exclusivity and the idea that if you don't have a charter, we can't make you leave but we don't want you here.

I'm in total agreement with psu @psugorilla, Another Penske screw job. MattyD, what can I say...I think it's gonna be tough for him to find a good seat (any seat?) now. Harrison is NOT ready for Cup no matter how many sponsors he has lined up. I don't like this about the sport these days.

Me Either @Highbank I think if a burton was going to move up it should be Jeb. But I don't know what his contract is like so maybe he's content where he is. There's some seats yet to fill so I think Matty D will be okay.

Burton replacing Cindric in the 22 would've done him good if he was getting pushed out or Toyota. Moving him to Cup now would probably result in him struggling horribly.

Also Matt could go to Xfinity or Trucks. Several drivers who tried Cup found success there.

The fact Cindric has been announced for the 2 means that the Keselowski to Roush deal is done.

All we need now is the announcement. Probably not a bad move because Smoke's career looked like it had hit a new low when he partnered with Haas.

I disagree with Highbank- of the drivers who have a realistic shot of being promoted to Cup, HBurton is second only to Cindric.

As for Matty D, I suspect he may end up at one of the new teams- maybe the second Trackhouse car?

You have 2 fan-supported drivers in Chastain and Matt D.
You have grizzled vet Kurt Busch.

Assume Kurt jumps at the chance to flex in JGR-prepped equipment; goes to 23XI as the second driver.
Leaves Chastain and Matt D for Trackhouse.

Who brings in sponsors? I think Matt D performance-wise has a slight edge (see his Bristol run in the 95), Chastain I think would have an edge with sponsors, but that's guesswork there.

So slight advantage to Matt D.

Isn't GMS also potentially looking for a 2nd full time driver? That could potentially help both drivers with landing spots after this, assuming nobody gambles further on young 'talent'.

GMS? I thought they said they were looking to partner with someone.

Last I had heard, they were going Cup racing with Justin Haley in one car, AJ part time in another, and the other full time driver was TBD. Which leads into another point....

As many keep saying, 2022 is probably THE year for teams to try and expand/break into Cup, as the technological playing field will likely be more level than it has been... well, ever. It's going to be pretty ruthless in terms of team success and failure, and I think that a team we see now in 2021 may not exist come 2023/2024, losing to one of these newer teams. It's really kind of a crapshoot. Only teams I think are "safe" are HMS, JGR, Penske, and SHR.
