Hello Stunod!
Just this year, I've gotten into making replicas of cars that actually run on track for this game, and the overall feedback I've received from friends and the community is that I'm good at what I do. The Xfinity Series has been my favorite series for the past few years, which got me thinking...what was it like when all the second series in NASCAR really consisted of were Cup teams and drivers dominating over small, underfunded teams? I was only 5 years old when the 2013 season kicked off, and out of my curiosity and love for this game, I have decided to re-create every car that attempted a qualifying lap for the Drive4COPD 300 in 2013 on the new SRD NXS20 mod. This thread is where I will post my updates on the carset, as well as where I can ask questions to the wealth of knowledge that is the Stunod userbase. If I don't end up completely finishing this carset at some point, I will put all the cars I had completed up to that point out for download. Let's just hope that won't happen...fingers crossed!

I've already got a head start compiling images of the cars and race for reference, and I have completed two of the start-and-parks that qualified for the race and pulled out early.

#10 Jeff Green, who finished last in the start-and-park ride for TriStar Motorsports:

#24 Blake Koch, driving SR2 Motorsports' second Toyota, also a start-and-park car:

For the record, Koch and his team did try to complete the whole race, they were taken out in a crash after 14 laps and fininshed 38th.

I will see you guys at the next stop!

Keep adding to your collection. I would suggest you dump your render scene you are using and re- download it because it does not seem to be rendering correctly. I had the same problem with the pink issue, and I was told it was because I was missing files so I did another download problem solved.

The next car is the first of many, many Chevrolets in the field. Danny Efland is a largely forgotten driver to many, but he drove for JD Motorsports on a part-time basis in 2013, bouncing around several small teams. In the season opener, Efland managed to stay out of trouble until 5 laps to go, where he was taken out in the wreck that led to the wild and controversial finish of the race. Efland ended up 25th.

I made a quick little render scene myself, I may tweak as time goes on but I'm satisfied with the way it looks for now.

No new cars quite yet but I did update my little render scene. Fixed the the car by making it a little bit shorter and used spotlights instead of a sun light. I will continue to work on this set in the coming week!1649025728548.png

Kyle Busch has run in this series for many years, often single-handedly dominating races to take them away from the series regulars, as was commonplace at this time. This race was shaping up to be another Kyle win, if not at least a top 5. But suddenly on Lap 100, disaster struck for Kyle when his engine expired unexpectedly. It was a rare JGR equipment failure, but to the team it wasn't a surprise. All 4 JGR cars had struggled with overheating issues all day. Kyle finished 32nd after leading 22 laps, second most of anyone that day.

[The Toyota in my render wasn't being nice, so I modified James' scene to showcase the Toyotas.]

However, Kyle did own a car running in this race who was up in the mix for the win late, and that is also the next car you'll see...

Kyle Busch fielded what was essentially a fifth Joe Gibbs car during the 2013 season, which they tabbed young Parker Kligerman to drive. This Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota was not supposed to be top 5 level like the Gibbs cars were, but as we often see from Kligerman today, he outperformed his equipment. Parker consistently ran top 10 throughout the race, and after a flurry of cautions toward the end, he found himself in the lead with under 10 to go. He didn't win, but drove through the wreck at the finish at the end to finish 5th. He led 10 laps. Kligerman would continue his momentum throughout the season, finishing 9th in the standings.

Elliott Sadler, championship runner-up the last two seasons, was beginning his first season with powerhouse Joe Gibbs Racing. Elliott qualified a strong 6th for the main event. Sadler ran up front all day despite an overheating issue that lingered on. He made a pit stop for the issue under the last caution of the day, and finished 15th after leading 13 laps.

Affectionately known as the Racin' Cajun, Hal Martin has raced many cars across the world, and the Louisiana native planned on a full-time Nationwide effort in 2013 with TriStar Motorsports. This deal fell through around halfway through the season, but he did still compete in the season opener. Martin qualified only 32nd and was a backmarker all day before getting caught up in the crash on lap 115. A forgettable day for Martin indeed.

Figured out how to render with background images in Blender after much trial and error too!

Joe Nemechek has been racing in NASCAR since the late 80s, and he is well-known around the garage. Joe operates his own team in the Nationwide and Cup Series in 2013, NEMCO Motorsports. Not long before the Daytona opener, the Florida DOT reached out to Joe asking to sponsor his car for the race, and of course Joe accepted the offer. This was one of Nemechek's best Daytona openers in the Nationwide Series, where his #87 car ran up in the lead pack before being involved in a couple crashes later on in the race. In the end he recovered, finishing 18th and on the lead lap, which tied for his second-best finish all year. Nemechek retired from racing after the 2020 season, at 57 years old.

Brian Vickers began his first full-time Nationwide Series season in 10 years at Daytona in 2013. His last was in 2003, for Hendrick Motorsports, when he won the series championship with 3 wins. From there, he raced for Hendrick Motorsports and Red Bull Racing in the Cup Series before RBR shut down after 2012. Joe Gibbs signed Brian to run 2013 for him. When Denny Hamlin was injured in Fontana, Vickers was his sub when both series were in town, and he actually won the Cup race at New Hampshire. However, his luck wasn't as great on the Nationwide side. He didn't win a race all season, and in Daytona he struggled with overheating issues that his teammates also were having. Vickers pitted multiple times during the race to try and fix the issue, and finished 19th, 2 laps down.

Eric McClure, son of the Daytona 500 winning Morgan-McClure Motorsports' owner Larry McClure, was a Nationwide Series veteran in 2013. Coming out of an injury-riddled season in 2012, McClure hoped to turn his fortunes around with TriStar Motorsports in his third season driving their #14 Toyota Camry. McClure had one of the best races of his career in the 2013 opener, leading multiple laps and coming home in the 8th position, which would ultimately be his only top 10 all season. His health issues lingered on later in the season, where a kidney problem kept him out of 6 races. During that absence, McClure was diagnosed with acute renal failure, which would tragically be his cause of death when he passed away almost exactly one year ago. Rest in Peace, Eric McClure.

19 year old Alex Bowman was signed just a couple months before Daytona to drive with RAB Racing, a Toyota developmental team. Alex showed promise all weekend in his Florida Lottery machine, stayed up front during the race and out of trouble to the end. Bowman came home in 3rd place, his first top 5 in only his 5th start. He outperformed the equipment the whole season, garnering 2 top 5s and 5 top 10s in 32 starts, and finished 11th in the points standings. This would get Cup team BK Racing to sign him for the 2014 campaign, where Bowman struggled as a rookie and bounced around the back of the Cup Series field for a couple seasons. In late 2016, he got the call to sub for Dale Jr in the 88 at Phoenix, where he impressed many and has led him to his current Cup Series ride at Hendrick Motorsports.

Jason White is more known for his Truck Series career in the late 2000s to early 2010s, but he did some Nationwide Series on the side too. In 2013, he signed with SR2 Motorsports on a part-time basis to run in one of their 2-3 entries, with the condition being to not start and park as the team often did. Jason ran decent throughout the race on Saturday, and was around the 20th position when the he was caught in the wreck on lap 115. White didn't get going again, and finished 24th. Later that year at Talladega, White would garner an 8th place finish, his best ever in the Nationwide Series. He did run several full time seasons in trucks, his best finish there was 2nd at Michigan in 2012.

Sam Hornish Jr began his career in go karts and finally working his way up to IndyCar by the year 2000. Sam had a lot of success driving for both Panther Racing, where he won the championship in 2001 and 2002, and Penske, whom he won the Indianapolis 500 and championship again in 2006. After 2007, Hornish closed out what would be his last season in an open wheel car. He wanted to try stock car racing, and Roger Penske offered him a drive in one of his Cup Series Dodge's. Hornish struggled in Cup for the next three years, finishing no better than 28th in the points. In 2011, he ran part time in Nationwide for Penske, winning his first NASCAR event at Phoenix in the fall. He proceeded to run two more years in Nationwide, finishing 4th in 2012. At Daytona in 2013, Sam sported the colors of Alliance Truck Parts in his and Penske's first time running Ford Mustangs. He qualified 2nd to Trevor Bayne, and ran up front the whole race before also finishing 2nd to kickstart his season. He won at Las Vegas just two races later, a rare achievement for a Nationwide regular when so many Cup Leeches were running every week. He infamously lost the championship to winless Austin Dillon by the skin of his teeth, and Hornish was out of a ride after 2013. He ran a brief part time schedule in 2014, winning the first Iowa race and finally did one last Cup season before retiring from full time competition after 2015.

Juan Carlos Blum was a fresh diverse face in the Nationwide Series at Daytona in 2013. A native of Guadalajara, Mexico, Blum made only his 3rd career Nationwide start on that Saturday afternoon. He was one of two drivers from outside the USA in the race (Nelson Piquet Jr, Brazil). Blum started way back in 36th driving for backmarker team Rick Ware Racing. On lap 30, he was running in the lead pack when he was hooked on the left rear quarter-panel and sent careening to the inside wall off turn 4. The damage was too much to repair, so Blum was retired from the race and finished 37th. He didn't make many more starts in Nationwide or any NASCAR series after that. After starting in 2010 in the Peak Mexico Series, he left Mexico in 2012 to pursue driving in one of the national series. He currently resides in Mexico and races late models around the country,

23 year old Jeffrey Earnhardt, grandnephew of the late great Dale Sr, was ready to kick off the 2013 season with his second start for Archie St. Hilaire's Go Green Racing, known in later years as Go FAS Racing after a merger. Jeffrey was one of two Earnhardts in the Nationwide Series opener for 2013, joining his uncle Dale Earnhardt Jr. Go Green Racing was a midfield team at best, and Earnhardt's results reflected that during qualifying and the race. Jeffrey qualified only 31st of 40, and stayed in the back of pack all day, avoiding incidents and coming home to finish 22nd. He would end up running half of the Nationwide schedule in the 79 car that year, and is still known for bouncing around different teams in the Xfinity Series today.

2 years after winning the 2011 Daytona 500 and shocking the NASCAR world, Trevor Bayne still wasn't running full-time in Cup. He was running the full Nationwide schedule for Roush Fenway Racing and their strong program, and Trevor's 2013 got off to a good start with a pole for Daytona. Unfortunately, mechanical problems struck in the race causing Trevor to retire and finish 34th. Bayne finally made the switch to full-time Cup racing in 2015 with Roush, but was released a couple years later after a combination of poor performance and the fall of sponsor Advocare. Since then, Bayne has bounced around the lower series in a few part time rides, including this year where he is running an 8 race slate in Xfinity for Joe Gibbs.
