2001 saw Hershel McGriff once again racing a full schedule in the Winston West Series, now driving a Chevy Monte Carlo for Michael Gaughan and Bill McAnally. At the age of 74, he announced his retirement following the 2002 season, but he wasn't quite done yet. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2006.
