Hi Everyone:

I don't know if this is the right forum to use or not. Shoutbox isn't. I have some deeply personal news to share. For a very long time I have felt isolated from society and have had no luck in finding a job much less keeping one. I have a good friend who is a major partner in a local law firm and some time ago he suggested and arranged for some psychological testing to try and determine the underlying causes of why I am the way I am.

That testing revealed that I suffer from Autism as well as an accompanying mental speed deficit. What that means is that I am socially backward and cannot process and execute mentally fast enough. These two diagnosis plus my pre existing diabetes and genetic from birth hearing loss are major disability qualifiers and that process is getting underway for me.

Until that all gets flowing I am going to be very financially strapped so if you are of faith, please send a good word up for me, OK?

I am currently in the worst depression I have ever had and have been shaken to the very core of who I am. Especially considering that I was told that even if I somehow managed to get a job, I could not hold on to it because I cannot execute mentally fast enough.

So, that's why I have not been as active on the site as I used to be.

Thanks,
White Eagle

No.
Especially considering that I was told that even if I somehow managed to get a job, I could not hold on to it because I cannot execute mentally fast enough.

This sounds like lies. I do not believe this.

Man Proposeth, God disposeth.
Living well is the best revenge.
He that trusts in a lie, shall perish in truth

- "Outlandish Proverbs" collected by George Herbert (1640)

The best course of action here is sheer bloody-mindedness and proving to whomever said this, that they are a knave.
I'll be praying for you because I know that the chap upstairs listens and acts.

We know that you are stronger and better than whoever said this.

We know that you can dunk on them by being awesome.

I am praying to the Lord of all the Maker of everything that you be delivered from your depression.

I have often found that the best way to relieve the depression is to focus on doing for others...

God be with you

Heya Eric,
You take care and keep your head up. There is so much going on these days in the world to exacerbate ones tendencies toward Anxiety, Depression and such.
Just remember the good things, what has gone right and know that if you do not harm others and wish for good that you are good.

We all mostly have some defect or another of varying degrees and circumstances.

I kind of know what you mean, with my up and down ADHD n all I sometimes get stuck socially and forming a response at times. I do much much better putting THINGS together, building, creating and understanding the physical aspects of something.

My brain waves show excessive activity when tested long ago. when a baby I jumped up and down so much I broke my crib and hurt my lip LOL(I was told, I do not remember that, ha).

But anyway this is about you, but I am here with you in a way, you are not alone and if you want to talk sometime, when my brain is up to it and I have time hit me up.
You take care and stay safe Eric! :) Asking for the best for ya.

Yeah I agree with this comment. Who told you this? Who said that? Was it by a professional? Even so, I am pretty sure there are jobs out there that you can get that assist with disabilities.

The fact alone you can type coherent clean sentences and paragraphs shows me you can hold a job somewhere. Do not lose all hope.

In my job I have to deal with the Americans with Disabilities Act. It more or less says that if the employer can prove that you are not able to perform the essential functions of a job, they can choose to not hire you (they can technically choose to fire you too if already hired, but that tends to be more difficult.) Proving what is and is not an essential function can be difficult for the employer; for example, if you want to be a truck driver, but you can't do something essential like turn the steering wheel or climb into the truck, that is an essential function. But if you were say hired as a cashier for Target, but had difficulty using the register, that wouldn't necessarily be an essential function because they have other positions that do not require you to use a register.
The other thing about the ADA is that if you cannot do an essential function but have a workaround for it, known as an accommodation, then you can present that to the employer, and by law they must take the time to consider it. They can still prove that the accommodation may not work, but if it is a successful way to work around your disability, they have to consider it. For example, if someone was unable to walk or run, they would likely not be considered to be a police officer. However if the individual proved that they can do the job just as effectively with a wheelchair, then the police department has to consider whether or not that would be a viable accommodation.

The ADA has its own website with useful information on the subject. There is also a program with Autism Speaks that helps people on the spectrum find employment.
