I live about an hour from the track, and we got very little rain from the remnants of the hurricane. Most of it passed well to the east of us. In fact, I'm going to the Cup race on Sunday. This will be my fourth consecutive year to do the fall race at 'Dega...

Gotta admit...this race was a snoozefest most of the day, until about five laps to go. The racing was "follow-the-leader," with the drivers falling into single-file and no one really jockeying for position. The field tended to break apart into three or even four smaller packs. It appeared that Stewart-Haas was a lock for the top four spots (they ran very strong all day) but Harvick and Busch both ran out of fuel, allowing Almirola to take the win. And no "big one"...

Welcome back to the mid 2000's, that's the way plate racing was for a few years.

Something about those RYR Engines on plate tracks. Good for Aric. Does gas running out count as the big one?

The "big one" was a product NASCAR invented when the made the resticter plate smaller in the early 2000's the get pack racing like we saw yesterday. There were wrecks at the super speedways before that, but weren't called the "big one" until either Mike Joy or Darrel Waltrip started saying it either late '05, early '06.

NASCAR announced last week that the restrictor plate will soon be a thing of the past. As of the spring race at 'Dega next year, the plate is being replaced with a spacer that, combined with some changes in aerodynamics, will increase the engine HP to around 550, but at the same time increase downforce and drag (this according to NASCAR's website). We'll see...
