I tried looking through the rules for an answer on this but couldn't find one.
Are you allowed to convert textures that were extracted from other games and modify them into NR paint schemes? And are they safe to upload to the download repository?
The N09 fantasy carset I finished a few days ago was done with this method and I want to make sure I'm not getting into any trouble by making it publicly available...

Do you know how much on some of the tracks over the years has been 'borrowed" from other games? 3DO's, surface textures etc.. There is a lot more than you think, Even with rfactor1. You see a lot of NR2003 content there as well. I'm not even sure if it's possible to get textures out of that game.

Like what kind of textures we talking about, you have an example.
Things like this, I mean.
This is a vehicle texture sheet which I ripped directly from Nascar 09 via RenderDoc, and I reconfigured it to fit onto the SS.net COT mod's template when making the carset I uploaded two days ago.
My question is, am I risking getting into trouble by using assets that were directly ripped from the game?

I'd think it would be ok, but I'm not an admin. I helped someone do something very similar with the modifieds from Chase For the Cup.

I think the better question might be, why don't you paint thT yourself, it's so simple?

Maybe I chose a bad example but there are other cars in the set that are would have been way more tedious and time-consuming to recreate from scratch ;-;

The two guys who've replied to this are the site owners and policy makers and you dare give your opinion?????????
John and Daletona aren't site owners and replied to this thread with their opinions and guidance, what makes my reply any different? Besides, isn't giving credit where it's due a good thing?

The only thing I "dare" to do is try to help someone asking a question by answering it as best as I can.

I myself feel that ripping is ripping regardless of source. Learn to paint instead of stealing from anyone else.
it would set a poor precedence to allow you to to rip.

Does that answer your question adequately?

Yes, yes it does. Thank you for your time and sorry to bother you.
I do have some of my own schemes stockpiled so maybe I'll upload a few of those to the download repository over time.

The real question is do any of those paint schemes even match anything template wise for NR2003? If not then it's generally a waste of your time.. Painting from scratch would be easier..
Somewhat. They fit into the template nearly perfectly with a little bit or resizing.
