Can someone please teach me how to remove the background from this image. I tried the background eraser and the magic wand but it it erases parts of the actual logo. I would like to be able to do this myself. Any suggestions or help is always appreciated. Thank you.

Someone else might have a better option, but it would probably be easier to trace the logo to create a clean copy rather than erase the background. I would recommend looking up some tutorials online about using the pen tool and then how to add outlines and drop shadows. It is also helpful if you could figure out the fonts used, then you could recreate the text without having to trace it.

Since the image is too complex , tracing is the answer. For simpler images various plugins/filters can be used. Mac's Remove White and Mike and Yael's Kill White work well. Mehdi's Eraser Classic and Genuine work well for other colors. These are PSP and PS compatible. They are also 32 bit and may not work on 64 bit systems.
