Maybe it's the generic body, maybe it's the design (or my bad eyesight lol) but is that rear bumper rounded, similarly to the 90's Cup cars?

I also think it's safe to say that it'll be the Mustang and Camaro, with a 30-70 chance Toyota actually pulls the Supra to Cup (I really think it's unlikely).

Now to tamp down on the hype a bit, points that I think many are missing:

I see a number of people (RealRadman primarily) talking about how the car has off throttle time, handles more in the direction of driver talent over excessive downforce.... and while that is likely true to an extent, I think we need to consider that, once teams get their cars on the track and aero-testing, etc, the CC's will have that sucker trimmed out to maximize downforce, handling, etc. As it is now, I don't think it'll be 'glorified slot car racing' like we see now, but somewhere in between. But I'm quite happy that it seems, as it stands right now, that we are headed back in the right direction.

If the final car comes with a true diffuser, then a any trips through the grass could damage that and effect the handling.

then its a charger

I call BS... but I'll play along....

In this day & age of instant news via different outlets and social media.... have himself or yourself upload the image and share with the rest of us.

If it turns out be true, then OK.... but Nascar stated '3 manufacturers' at the unveil on May 5th. If they said '4' without any other info then Nascar forums & twitter accounts would be blowing up.

So far, from what I have been reading about the new Gen 7 car - I'm not in favor for it, looks like a bloody tank/square box on wheels... I only hope the racing doesn't take a nose dive.

Apparently, the next-gen/Gen 7 car was heavily influenced by Australian V8 Supercars in order to make the car more "road course friendly" and entice more manufacturers to join. Honestly, I would be surprised if a new manufacturer announcement was made on May 5, as I haven't seen anything suggesting Dodge, Honda, or someone else joining.

Then that's a mistake in principle.

The best seasons for close drafting in the V8Supercars was 1993-1998. (1995 is a good example)
Those cars had front air dams but no approved splitters. Splitters don't show up until VT/EL.

A NASCAR Cup Car is already ruined by front splitters.

JimFrance44:

Guys, where can I download the Gen-7 Mod? It would help us out loads. I have a few good ideas for some designs.

Triple8:

Do you want our neat Buick Regal VI?

JimFrance44:

Dude, nobody wants your wannabe Buick. Your country doesn't even want your wannabe Buick.

BigRogPenske:

I've got Mustangs and an IMS. You can download my Mustangs.

JimFrance44:

Your Mustangs look real weird.

...allegedly.

Just wait, the common engine is coming... already there in the trucks.

I don't think that just cause Trucks has it that Cup will. Or even Xfinity.

Cup and Xfinity are still big draws. That's where most of the eyes are looking at when it comes to NASCAR. So a manufacturer can use that to promote one of their vehicles that can directly be influenced by that. Sorta like the "Race on Sunday, sell on Monday" kinda mentality. Like when Toyota wanted to bring back the Supra, they changed their Xfinity car to match it.

With the Truck Series, it's less noticeable. The majority of the races are on cable and on Fridays (which is considered the TV death slot for shows due to people being out and about). Plus little has changed over the years. They still run the same chassis styles as 10-15 years ago (see Freak as an example:
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBQExYkHqVs
), and it's the same models as it was 10 years ago (Silverado, F-150, and Tundra).

Also, I think people's interest in vehicles has changed over the past 20 years. Manufacturers once needed to heavily promote their trucks to get sales up. Nowadays, it's cars that don't sell as well. Plus NASCAR isn't as popular today as it was then. So it doesn't make sense to pump a lot of money into the 3rd tier series in NASCAR when you can put that money more into the other series.

The Trucks were stepping stone. Dodge returned to the Trucks first after leaving Nascar before a return to Cup.

If a Manufacturer can align itself with a Powerhouse team, great. But that will take a lot of cash.

Engines are still the biggest issue. Before Toyota could move into Trucks they had to completely invent a cast iron block V8 as they didn't have one in their current line up at the time.

Engines are running 70's tech with the EFI system. Once direct injection is in the rules, more may enter.

Sort of... Toyota's 358cid V8 was reverse engineered from Ford's V8 which is ultimately Cleveland 351 derived.
Direct injection in GM cars wasn't a GM thing until GM bought Saab.
