Yes, they looked kind of weird to me at first too, but I think it's because we're so used to pictures of these cars being in black & white. Not many color photos or videos of these cars exist and who knows how accurate the colors are in the ones that do exist. I thought about toning down the colors a little to match the photos from that era, but decided to go with what I thought they probably looked like in person back then. Maybe for my next screenshot, I'll edit it so it looks like a vintage photo, 'cause I get what your sayin.
Good question! Color pics really few and far between for this era. There are some videos on Youtube recorded by Julian Buesink which I was able to use as a reference, but for the most part, I just kept doing good 'ol google image searches. Whenever I found the rare color pic of a 1950's stock car I would go to the website it was posted on and see where it lead. There doesn't seem to be any "goldmine" of pics like these, but if you find one let ME know!
Yep, that is a good one. There are a few cars in my set that I found there. I probably go over there later and browse thru it in case I missed anything. Now that you mentioned it, there's also Randy Ayers modeling site that has some great screen shots of the 1956 Southern 500.
