Hi everybody,

I got some issues with my new install of NR2003:
I got awesome fps all around the tracks (100-150 fps), except for the frontstretch (4-8 fps) on all tracks (and when there is a lot of cars in front of me)...
I tried many graphical tweaks without success, then I tested the same tracks with the original Cup mod, and I only drop to 80 fps.
Thus, I guess it's coming from the mod, but more probably from car files.

As Cup original cars are 512 px res, and the MENCS 2048px res (1024px for crew), I am trying to improve performances by decreasing car paint from 2048px to 1024 px, and crew paint from 1024px to 512 px (export -> res reduction on Photoshop -> import).
But strangely, the size (kb) of car files do not decrease...

Thus, here is my question:
Is there a way to got smaller car file size, or a way to get low res car, other than by simply importing low res paint schemes?

Thanks!

David

No.
TGA -> BMP
Edit BMP in Paint - resize 50%
Save.
BMP -> TGA

Import.

Or try flattening the image even if it only has one layer. That will save you between 5% and 20% of file size generally (for reasons I don't understand)

if you have WinMip2 open WinMip2 click Nr2003 .car editor, and then click export to .tga, resize image to 1024x1024 (for me i occasionally using Photoshop and Paint shop)

Not only do the car file size matter, and if you did the graphics tweaks correctly, did you look in your vid card control panel to see what the settings were for the game.

Thank you for your message. I just followed several graphic tweaks available on the internet, in core.ini, rend_dxg.ini and player.ini, and also in Nvidia Control panel (anti-aliasing and anisotropic settings).
But I did not notice significant improvement tweak after tweak, and the fps drop on frontstretch was similar.

The only way I improved the fps was by driving original Cup mod.

What is strange is the fact I did not notice such a drop on my previous install some months ago (I had to format my computer to install a new SSD Hard drive and to increase my RAM from 16 to 32Gb...).

Also, if your "Maximum Sounds Played" is maxed out at 24 it will use up FPS. Try setting it to 8.

In my experience, if it's along the front stretch that you're having problems, it's an indication that the pit crews may be the problem. With any mod, I always convert the crews to 512 px and use WinMip to select 24-bit compression. That usually helps a lot, especially along the front stretch as you pass the pits. I also usually convert the cars to 1024 px as well as 24-bit compression but that's because I have an older computer with less resources.

It's always best to make one change at a time, then try it out and see if it helped before moving on to the next change. That way you can possibly make the least amount of changes without losing the detail you may want.
