FPS Dropping Over time?

Posted this at SRD, thought I'd get you guys's help too
I'll start out a race, test session whatever at 40 ish fps and over time it will drop all the was down to 11, where the game is undriveable. I let it sit for a while to see what would happen and it eventually got down to 1 FPS
The weird part is this doesn't happen in other games, rFactor is fine, LFS is fine, GTR2 is fine even OWR2005.
I have a Compaq Presario CQ57, 1.6 ghz processor, 2 gb ram, so obviously a piece of shit, but this issue only recently cropped up

I've got 34 gigs or so right now. Do I need to clear them?

That should be enough but more is always better.

Before doing anything, look for a updated video driver, empty your temp folder (click start, type on the run line, %temp%. When the window opens, delete everything you can in the Temp Folder.)

Some suggestions:
1. In Game - change max sounds played to 10 - DO NOT use 3D Audio
2. Turn any video feature you do not need (steering wheel, Debris, windshield buildup, shadows)
3. Lower driving resolution (maybe
4. Opponent Pit Crews to none
5. Draw ahead 10 to 15; in mirror 5 to 10
6. Drawing distance to how low you can tolerate
7. Change game resolution using "configure 3d graphics" to one of the 16 bit settings. (If you are using DirectX D3D, try changing to OpenGL)

Before you start the game, open task manager or msconfig (or 'end it all' or some other program)and turn off all background programs and services that are not used by the game or your OS.
