OK so I got a Max3d 2011 trial I tried a few renders and have a problem. Look at the fin that runs from the roof to the trunk. It show details and not a solid color. How to fix? Where can I get more scens and how to add backgrounds. Thanks

you need to remap the fin with the correct material. You probably won't find a lot of scenes to work with 2011, most are done for 2013 and up.

Exactly how are you getting the background pics in the scene. You also need to add some lighting, an invisible ground plane to catch the car shadows.

I am just placing them into the background by touching an unused portion of the area. I still have a lot of learning to do. Any help or at least terminology to look up videos is appreciated.

Here's what I've been doing, going to youtube, type in search box exactly what your wanting to do. Example, floor shadows in 3ds max, you'll get a bunch of vids pop up.
I've been following Clayton Donnan, he's got some good vids,
As far as the background image goes, I've tried everything I know, they either come out stretched or upside down or some other weird way. Just never tried the way you say.
You say you have a lot of learning to do, brother you don't know how much you have left to learn, I've been doing these for several years now, and still don't know a lot.

Would you be willing to write down the actual steps you do to get the background pic into your scene.
In your scene materials, you should have a couple mats dealing with the shark fin, a tga or jpeg for the fin, and a dds file that goes along with it.

Figure out what background jpeg you want to use. Open the folder where it is and drag it anywhere above the car you should get this screen if it's allowable. It won't work on all of the scenes. I have only used it in the one.paint2.jpg
