I've been working on a carset for over a month, even though the mod hasn't been released yet (the International Competitive Racing Mod by Mystical/Armory Digital). As soon as I learned of the new WIP mod, this idea came together in my head in about an instant: what if the FIA did stock cars?
I obviously don't have any cars painted yet, but I've got the ratings figured out, the pit crews painted, and a schedule put together. Here's the concept:
There will be 15 teams with two full time drivers each. The max field for each race is 34 cars, so there are four wildcard spots, which will be filled by third cars from those teams. I'm using almost exclusively real drivers, and many real teams from around the world. As we're talking about stock cars, there will be a heavy American presence, but you'll see teams from four continents and drivers from five. There's a good mix of veterans who've left F1/NASCAR/etc, and rookies who see it as an opportunity to make a name for themselves.
There are manufacturer and tire wars, and driver ratings will take those into account with different tires/manufacturers having slight advantages over each other. There are spec engines and chassis, which are reflected in the ratings, but manufacturers make their own bodies.
The mod will be released on Friday, and I'll have at least one team to show off then!
I've already got a full rule set put together, covering races, paint schemes, and equipment, but I'll save that for later. I just wanted to go ahead and get the thread started here. This will be a very detailed set, I intend to include everything right down to (basic versions of) the drivers' real helmets, so hopefully it'll keep me busy during quarantine!

Can't wait to see this. The ICR mod made me thing of doing a similar IMSA set.

Ye, I'm looking forward to this. This mod and these carsets, in particular, will be good for my Discord Racing Series, because more manufacturers and variability

So looking at the templates, and the tutorial video Mystical put out (which is VERY helpful!), this carset is going to take longer than I expected, it'll be a few days while I play around with the template and figure out what I can do, but wow, we're going to be able to do big things with this template! A lot of the things I expected to have to make (tire brands, for example) are already made.
However, a few ideas I had won't work as well, not through any failure of the mod but just because looking at it now, they won't look as good, so there will be some extra planning involved. I might swap one of the manufacturers, because I won't be able to make a Renault Megane template up to the quality of these templates, which also means rethinking one of the teams because it was a factory Renault team based on Renault Sport F1

Found some new techniques that sped things up, and the template's easier to work with than I thought (great job, Mystical!), so here's the first team: starting off with my own team because it's my carset, I do what I want!

Based in Davidson, North Carolina, USA, and owned by Georgia resident Anthony Stuart, this team comes in with NASCAR experience, though not in the cup series. The team will field Dodge Chargers on Hoosier tires, and is sponsored by The Home Depot, Hoosier, Sparco, and Richard Mille. The team will field cars for two drivers: #87 Ricardo Zonta from Brazil, and #86 Fred Jones (player car). They expect to field a number of wildcard entries as well, for three drivers: Jenson Button from the UK, Jorge Goeters from Mexico, and Loic Duval from France. The team has a lot of stock car experience, but the drivers (aside from Jones) all come in from various road racing disciplines. Will their mixed background provide a challenge or an opportunity?

Note the different splitter colors on the three cars, I did that to help tell cars apart from each team: the senior driver will have a white splitter, junior driver gets a black splitter, and wildcard entries get a yellow splitter. The rookie stripes on the back are colored to match. With a little experience, you'll always be able to tell at a glance which car you're looking at.

NOTE: on the final cars, the roof rails, shark fin, and rear spoiler will be black, not white, I wasn't expecting that to jump out quite that much - I forgot how huge the shark fin and spoiler are for this mod!

In the future I'll just post a photo of one car, instead of all three, I'm just showing how you can tell them apart this time
The next team will be the sport's first factory team, stay tuned!

I didn't think I'd get one team done today, let alone two, but that's what happens when I'm bored and stuck at home!

Racing with a Japanese license, but based in Jyväskylä, Finland, the Toyota Gazoo Racing Team has made a name for themselves in the WEC, Dakar, and the World Rally Championship, among other series, and owner Tommi Makinen has taken his team to the world of stock car racing. The team will field Toyotas on Michelin tires, and is the first factory entry in the series, though rumored not to be the last. Toyota Gazoo Racing SCT is sponsored by Denso, Panasonic, DMG MORI, and Microsoft, and will be receiving technical support from veteran NASCAR team Joe Gibbs Racing. The drivers will be #10 Kazuki Nakajima from Japan, and #20 Heikki Kovalainen from Finland, with Japanese driver Kamui Kobayashi running several wildcard entries during the season. How will this team's road racing background work out for them on a schedule expected to include many road courses?

The next team definitely won't happen tonight, but it'll be the first team with oval experience.
As for the promise of helmets/suits being extra detailed: the suits aren't going to be nearly as detailed as the crew suits, but they won't be blank. The helmets? They might be blank, I always sucked at painting helmets lol

Team 3: Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing
One of the most successful IndyCar teams has joined the fold with their first stock car effort, to be run out of the same Brownsburg, Indiana shop as the IndyCar effort. The team will field Hondas on Hoosier tires, marking the third manufacturer to enter the series officially. Team owner Bobby Rahal has secured sponsorship from Mobil 1, McDonalds, and Alpinestars. The drivers will be #15 Loris Hezemans of the Netherlands, and #42 Paul Morris of Australia, and unlike Stuart and Toyota Gazoo, the team is not expected to field any wildcard entries.
It feels a bit odd to put a Penske paint scheme on an RLL car, but it's a Mobil 1 car, and no Mobil 1 paint scheme will ever match Mayfield's from 2000!

Next up will be a team that anyone who's played Gran Turismo games will be quite familiar with!

Up next is the de facto factory Honda team, Autobacs Racing Team Aguri.
Famous for their efforts in the Super GT and Formula Nippon series in Japan, this team also brings Formula Three, IndyCar, and karting expertise to the table, and is currently the largest racing team in Japan. Team owner Aguri Suzuki will run the team out of a new shop in Leafield, Oxfordshire, UK, and they will field Hondas on Goodyear tires, sponsored by Autobacs, JCB, and Orangebus. The drivers will be #8 Ben Hanley from the UK, and #55 Nirei Fukuzumi from Japan, while Japanese Indy 500 champion Takuma Sato will drive the #43 in several wildcard races.

Up next, a big entry into the series, which will fuel rumors about the schedule as well!

One more team today, the Captain is in!
Likely the most promising team so far, the legendary Team Penske will field Fords on Goodyear tires out of their Mooresville NC shop. Roger Penske's interest in the series has fueled rumors that the league will visit his new acquisition, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, especially since the speedway's logo appears on their cars! With sponsorship from Shell/Pennzoil, as well as his own Penske Corp and several other brands, this team will not be lacking for money! Roger has mostly hired drivers from his other teams for this venture, placing a lot of faith in the new series as #2 Austin Cindric from the USA, and #12 Fabian Coulthard from Australia New Zealand, will field full time cars. In addition, the team is expected to field wildcard entries at every race, with an all star cast of drivers in the #22: Ryan Briscoe, Ruben Garcia Jr, Felix Rosenqvist, Tony Stewart, Andrew Ranger, Toni Vilander, and Helio Castroneves.

That's all for tonight, tomorrow I'm probably knocking out some fictional teams - though these will involve real people, such as a former F1 star turned team owner.

Probably the only team I'll finish today, making sure I avoid getting burned out: another fictional team, this time with a real person as the owner: Monster Energy Racing Team!
Another new team to the grid will be run by Lucas Oil board member and MAVTV President Bob Patison, out of a shop in Sonoma, California, USA. This team will run Dodges on Goodyear tires, sponsored by Monster Energy and Lucas Oil Products. The drivers will be #98 Matt Tifft from the USA, and #98 Anthony Kumpen from Belgium. F1 veteran Felipe Nasr and modified driver Doug Coby will be helping develop the cars on road courses and ovals, and driving the #97 wildcard entry.

The next team in line is another big name from Europe, and finally puts a Chevy on the grid!
BTW, I neglected to mention earlier: most of these cars use numbers, some use logos, and the Stuart car uses a piece of a base, by other people - full credits will be given in the carset download and description

Another team done, just one tonight, and it's one of my favorites in the set: Arrow McLaren SP
In another big announcement for the new series, Zak Brown and Sam Schmidt announced that Indianapolis-based Arrow McLaren SP will expand into the World Stock Car Cup. The team will field Chevrolets on Pirelli tires, with sponsorship from Arrow Electronics, Sunoco, Logitech, HTC Vive, SAP, and Pirelli. Their full time drivers will be #6 Marco Mapelli from Italy, and #66 Nick Tandy from the UK. F1 veterans Lando Norris and Fernando Alonso will drive the team's wildcard entries.

As promised, the first Australian upside down team appears!
The second brand new team to be founded for the series, Webber Racing Team has been founded with an Australian license by former F1 star Mark Webber, and will compete out of a new shop in Aston Clinton, UK. The team will race Dodges on Goodyear tires, sponsored by BP, Wurth, Tata Communications, and Rich Energy. The team brings experience from around the world in the form of #13 Daniel Hemric from the USA, #14 Matthew Brabham from Australia, and #31 Will Davison from Australia running several wildcard entries.

Probably just going to be doing one per day for now, I've managed to replace Renault with another manufacturer but it's going to be extra work since I'm redoing ratings, pit crews, driver lineups, etc for two teams.
Up next: a team that will certainly get all the NASCAR fans interested!

Time for the all star team, JR Motorsports, a team that will really wish their wildcard car could score points!
In another major coup for the series, NASCAR team JR Motorsports has expanded their program to include the WSCC. Co-owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr and his sister Kelley, and run out of Mooresville NC, JRM will field Chevrolets on Goodyear tires, sponsored by Valvoline, Chevrolet, Brandt, Dirty Mo Media, and 5 Hour Energy. The team has hired two NASCAR veterans, #5 Daniel Suarez of Mexico, and #7 Landon Cassill of the USA. Like Team Penske, JRM will field a #9 wildcard entry at every race in the season, with an all star cast of mostly NASCAR veterans: Bobby Labonte, Greg Biffle, Dale Earnhardt Jr, Corey LaJoie, Joao Barbosa, Jimmie Johnson, and Jeff Gordon. This team combines for 12 Cup series titles, 4 xfinity series titles, 1 truck series title, 7 Daytona 500 wins, 7 Rolex 24 wins, 2 WSCC titles, and a total of 242 NASCAR cup series wins, what a lineup!

I previewed the wrong team last time, up next is another big fish: AMG Petronas Motorsport
Another manufacturer joins the fray, with a factory team this time! Daimler AG enters the league out of the same Brackley, Northamptonshire, UK shop that builds the AMG Mercedes F1 cars, this team will be using Goodyear tires, and is sponsored by Petronas, Bose, UBS, and Epson. The full time drivers will be #77 Andreas Wernersson from Sweden, and #88 Pascal Wehrlein from Germany. The team will also field #78 wildcard entries for Mikhail Aleshin and Rene Rast. Team owners are being cautious about predicting early success, but they indicate that they're planning on a long term future in the series!

doing some test races with the cars that are finished so far, to check that the ratings are working out
Bristol stats: 7 leaders, 27 lead changes in 100 laps, Matthew Brabham wins by 0.01 seconds over Felix Rosenqvist
I think I'm happy with the ratings :D
