No.
Let's assume that Jimmie Johnson was at Indy and didn't have COVID-19.

He have finished 13th?

628 + 114 = 742. Instead, he got 0.

That would have put him 6th in the standings.
Even if he'd been dumped on lap 1 he's still picking up 33 points.\

He'll be fine for the Round of 16 but not for the Round of 12.

I'm hoping...I'm also hoping he'll call this a do-over and that next year will be "NORMAL" year and he tries a finale year again

It'll be close. I want Matt to be in, so lock him. It's basically who finishes better out of Jimme and Byron.

I agree, but I also think that Matt DiBenedetto has to be careful also, as he is only 4 point in from of Byron and 9 ahead of Jimmy.. Stage points will be big Saturday night.

Just don't need a new non winner, who is below the cut line, like the #8 or #43 or Stenhouse who is always fast at the plate tracks.

Nope.

Constructors:
38 - Penske
31 - Stewart Haas*
29 - Joe Gibbs
29 - Hendrick
7 - Chip Ganassi
2 - Childress

*Wood Bros is Penske, really, isn't it?

I think NASCAR should enact the Covid rule - Jimmy missed playoffs by 6 points. He ran 1 less race than everyone in front of him, if he hadn't he would of been in. The Covid Rule, anyone missing a race due to Covid, they get points based on their average finish. This would put him in OR just put him anyway and have 17 in the Chase and eliminate 4 in the 1st round.

Sounds good to me. :)

Nah.

Being beaten by a mechanical failure is part of the sport.
Being beaten by an environmental failure is part of the sport too.

I agree with Mechanical failure part, but the Covid thing I don't... If he had a cold or the flu he could have started the race, then get out of car and would have gotten the points... No opportunity with Covid to start. MLB, NBA have changed up their playoff rules, why can't NASCAR?

If I was Grand Poobah and Lord High Everything Else, then I wouldn't even have the playoffs. I think that it's daft that Truex (11.42), Blaney (14.84), Bowman (15.92), Byron (16.11), Dillon (16.23 ), Custer (18.88) are all given artificial shots at the title.
It's as dumb as when the Melbourne Storm won the Rugby League Grand Final after finishing 8th in the regular season.

I hate grand finals systems.

I can see the argument for and against here. Obviously I'd prefer a straight shot, but it guarantees an exciting title finish. This year would be pretty boring with Harvick and to a lesser extent Denny winning everything if it wasn't for the Chase.
