Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but this section says "Questions and Showrooms for other sim racing games." so I think this is the right place.

Anyways, I've been getting into Automobilista lately(and as always they announce a sequel to a game right when I get into it).

I really like the Formula Ultimate 2017 car, so I thought I'll make a fictional grid of F1 cars to race with when I race.

I open up the template provided by the staff behind AMS, and
Temp Help.PNG

Instant cofusion, I managed to change the base color as that is self explanitory, and I can tell where the cockpit and front are. After that, I'm lost.
Can anyone here kind of nudge me along in what's what here?

Some of it makes sense. Top middle is the front wing. Top left looks like the canards on the wing edge. The middle part is the main body of the car, laid out sort of like NR2003, with the front of the car to the left.

What I would recommend is color coding each section, then rendering it, and then keeping that color code and render to know where everything is at.

UPDATE:

I've accessed the skins from the game, the are in .dds format, which means they are paint.net files.
Luckily for me I happen to have paint.net from my experiences skinning for Rigs of Rods a few years back.

Um.

If you REALLY look hard enough, you might barely be able to see it.
Yup, it's pretty much invisible.

And for a note, I tried this in GIMP using the dds plugin as well and it yielded the same result.

So, what do I do now?

OK try converting it to a jpeg and then you should see it without the alpha layer applied which can make it work like that...

Updating this after ages because I just thought about it.

I tried doing what Highbank suggested and saving it as a jpeg.
CLeclerc_SF90.jpg

Getting there, but not completely. Now it's mostly just white.

So, what to do now?

Which car is this in the mod? Or is it a car you downloaded?

There you go...

I'm not sure if GIMP or Paint.net has the tools to do what I did with Photshop, but what i did was open the flat (.dds), clicked on the "channels" tab, deleted the alpha channel and saved the file as a .jpg, I'm not sure I even had to delete the alpha, i just did it to save a bit of time if it didn't work and I got a white one like you did

That's pretty straight forward for an Open-wheel template if you ask me...

OK did it without deleting the alpha channel and it worked fine...,e thinks GIMP and/or Paint.net may not have the horsepower to do what you wanted in this case...
