@Jacob_chastine
I don't see the issue with people just downloading stuff~ I know I wasn't allowed a membership the first time I tried to join.. I'm assuming that had something to do with my name sounding a bit trollish, but that's beside the point~ The site is difficult to navigate, albeit not as difficult as nnr, and you get treated like a jerk if you don't know every single site rule~ I posted a car paint once, and got yelled at for not saying I got the logos from Google... so I just said the heck with it and removed it~

You want people to interact more, but are somewhat of a loose cannon to people at times, as with that reply you made earlier to the guy talking about this pole~ Instead of telling us what was going on, you yelled at him for trying to answer the question that was being asked~ I don't care to share stuff, but when you get yelled at for it, it kinda makes you less likely to share any further~
i hear what you’re saying, but there are rules for a reason for you to avoid being yelled at. I’ve only been a part of this community for about 3/4 of a year, while some responses may be a bit jaded at times, the admins also have to respond to the same question over and over again. It is for sure annoying (former college professor here) to answer the same question over and over again and get uneducated comments on areas people have no business commenting on. There are rules in place so we as a community don’t lose content creators like bill1947 because people either a) don’t credit his work or b) don’t follow the simple rules on the page. The only issue I see with opening downloads to non-members is we may see content on this site be duplicated on other sites, but the further we get from 2003, I don’t really care where my work goes, as long as people keep playing and creating content to keep the game alive.

I think non members should be allowed to download but I think there should be a limit on it. I know I am not as active as I once was, I used to love to paint cars for this site but my eyesite got to bad to paint but I do still race offline and this is where I come for all the new stuff.

I think that non-members should be able to download files posted here. However, I do think there should be either a weekly or monthly limit. As others in this thread have said, as we move further away from 2003 and the age of the game increases, the lack of content will grow. I also think that the interaction that this could potentially bring in will be good for not only this site, but the community in general.

No.
I finally voted 'yes' but only after careful consideration.

I think that one of the things that helps build community is access to it and I suspect that after people have had a look, then they people who sign up are more likely to be a better class of community builders.

I'm not quite sure that I understand what the potential repercussions / consequences are of each option... what is more detrimental to the site? Too many downloads? Or too many inactive members?

If the first, limit daily downloads for non-members as suggested by legolover2435.

If the latter, maybe consider implementing a new policy of deactivating / deleting rookie accounts that show no activity for more than six months (this policy would not apply to donors or members meeting some minimum criteria, i.e. hot pass, etc.). Banning said accounts would probably be overkill. But merely logging in could be considered "activity". But I'm no webmaster... might be a major PITA to implement.
